A Must upgrade to the epic 21 acme 540 prop
« on: August 08, 2013, 04:41:34 am »
i just installed my acme 540 prop.  NIGHT AND DAY!!.  if you are still running the stock oj prop do yourself a favor and spend the $350 for the acme 540.  i though with the old prop i popped out of the water now it is like i am on 2 skis.  not that top ends matters but with the oj i would top out at 5500 rpm.  now with the acme it burys at 6000.  thanks for all that helped me with the decsion.  i am going to have my oj repaired and cleaned up for a spare but only for temp reasons.  i will replace it with another acme if needed.

I have the same prop on my E21 and it was well worth the money.  Super smooth and more power compared w/ the stock one.

I have a 2001 X22 and I run an acme 541 this is the same as the 540 it is just LH . The boat has so much more power and holds speed much better then the stock prop.

We beach very frequently in the Lake Havasu, Topoc, Needles area. Ease in to the sand, make contact to a stop, then power up a bit to secure. Pulling out is mostly done with throttle. This is the common practice in the area. At times we'll pick up a bit of gravel. Our OJ stainless is super resistant to the little dings. Over the ten years I've cleaned up the leading edge maybe twice without really taking any material off. Still balanced well. More to point, I'd love to switch to ACME for smoothness and speed holding at 22, but really don't want to change our beaching habits or have be extra careful in shallow water areas. Would love to see 6K rpm someday - we too are 5500 at WOT. Don't want to give up cruise (25-30) mileage either. Just seems a given that the CNC NiBrAl would have to be much less ding resistant.
