water pump cover O ring
« on: March 31, 2014, 01:36:32 am »
when winterizing the boat i removed the water pump impeller and noticed the o ring under the access plate for the impeller was not seated right and is squished and deformed on one side. I can't see a pic of it on any of the schematics

i searched in the parts section and found this

MEN001098101 Oring,ImpellerCover,SeaWaterPump,Rubber   original price $1.33  price $15.00

I'm thinking its easier to just take the broken one to canadian tire with the water pump and match up a new one.

what do you guys think ?

That sounds like a quick, cheap option. If you do, keep your eye on the sea water pump for leaks and your temp gauge. A cheap o-ring isn't worth risking the engine overheating.

Seems like a local boat dealer might have one in stock.

For ~$30 plus shipping (minus 10% discount) you can get a new impeller (& an o-ring might come with it) from SKIDIM.com or call (803) 345-0996.

When I winterize and change my impeller each year, an o-ring comes with the new impeller.  I usually purchase the impeller from a local boat store (Johnson 812B or Jabsco 18838-0001).

You can also find it online - here's one source:

thanks guys !

i was aware the impeller was easily available but not sure if the housing was similar to the point that the o ring was the same

the fact that it comes with it is great

went to replace the impeller today and found this :

existing was a johnson 812 B-1 with a 12 point spline receiver centre to match my water pump that says "Johnson pump sweden F6B-2 10-13208-01

the Jabsco P18838-0001 that i bought is about 3/16" less diameter , 5/8" shallower and has a smooth inside with a spot for a key

just read my own post and realized there is a "P" in the part number on my impeller that isn't on the one "brad" uses.

thats it, right ?

hmm...not sure about the "P" but if it's not the exact size of what you're taking out, I wouldn't use it.

My 2 cents.
