speedo trouble

My speedometer is possesed! It works fine, then goes to 50 the to 0 then floats / hovers a bit. Is this something easy to fix?

My speedo was doing the same thing.  I cleaned the tubes, like Pete said, and it works great.

It'll piss you off to no end if you are in a lake that tends to clog speedos. One cheap solution is a $100 GPS. I went the expensive route and bought Perfect Pass, just for the speedo. I will implement the control sooner or later, it is not a direct fit.

around 1100 I think. I got a discount to help them design an interface bracket for the Epics. I'm not much of a mechanical designer, so I'm stuck. I have been meaning to post some pics for help from you guys.

OK, put on my goggles and cleaned the hell out that tube to no avail, still goes haywire. As soon as the key goes on, it instantly jumps up to 50 mph. No water is passing through the pitot at all. How is that possible?

Make sure to check whether the speedo gauge and the speedo in your Accuski message center correlate. If they're both off, you could have water in the lines or a leak, or blown up computer. However, if the two disagree, then for sure you've got an electronic problem. If the digital readout is good while the analog is bad, you might have a bad gauge or a bad computer.

Make sure you disconnect the battery for a few minutes to do a hard reset of the electronics.

Also, if it appears to be an electronic problem, take the advice you'll find on numerous other pages and check your ground, power and signal wires for looseness and/or corrosion.

Accuski and analog are saying the same thing, it's in the line somewhere

'99 and 2000 models with the old dash had reoccurring MDC problems as did the malibus sharing the same Kiaser Medalion setup.  Speedo clog will usually just show a slow or no speed.  The compatable Speed control system for that boat is made by Accuski by the way.  Poor grounding to the dash has shown to be an occasional culprit.

When I fuss with the wiring under the dash it makes the the needle go all over. It must be the ground wire. Easy to get to??

Suggest you take the kick panel out - not that fun cuz the screw heads get buried in the deep, luxurious carpet  
 
This'll give you room to look around in there and get aquainted with your innards.


Sooner or later, all Epic owners are gonna want to do two things:

1) Run additional (or replace existing with larger gauge) power and ground wire to the dash from the battery, and

2) Perform the MDC mod listed in the How To page. This provides additional, and clean, power to the MDC.

No, I haven't done either, but want to and will.
