Gonna be in Seattle, wanna ride?
« on: July 17, 2004, 17:33:10 pm »
Cal, I'm finally getting up there dude!

I have a one hour layover tomorrow at SEATAC. That should be good for one run a piece, right? Probly won't be able to help clean up the boat, but I could bring peanuts and a bistro bag.

On second thought, maybe I could pitch i for gas and you could drive her up to King Salmon? I'll be up there for a month and since there's 20 hours of light each day, we could get in some killer sessions.

Make sure you mount them rifle racks to the tower and I'll drape mosquito netting over the tower, etc.

As you can see from the pics below, there's some outstanding freshwater lakes up there. Not exactly sure how we're gonna get the X22 to the lake (not many roads up there). Anybody know the payload of a DC-3 on floats?

Holy crap man, an hour layover?!?! We can do it...no problem (since Seatac is 15 minutes from the lake, 35 from my dock...).  ;)

Is that really all you can squeeze out?  Why didn't you plan for a little more??  I'll meet you half-way -- next week I'm going to a place called Desolation Sound (about 50 miles north of Vancouver, BC), and plan on doing tons of wakeboarding. Not with an epic, but with a 21' Whaler Outrage (does better than you'd think).  My family is a big boating one and we do this trip every year.

Anyway, you gotta work more Seattle time in on your way back down -- you've got a place to stay for cheap (okay, free..).  Make sure you come back before mid-September or I'll be on the east side of the mountains.  But if you were coming into Seatac, I WOULD make the trip back...

What do you do up there in Alaska??  Seems like you do this a couple times a year??

The Alaska days are numbered. Sierra (almost 4) didn't seem to realize I wasn't coming home until the suitcases came out, despite warnings over the past couple weeks. No job is worth this, even if my wife and kids are awesome with it. If the trip doesn't get extended, I'll be at 34% travel this year. That's 14% higher than prior years. I figure for that to be worthwhile, I'd have to be making 28% more money and have 50% more vacation days.

I'm trying to get up there Cal. One of these days, but for sure, but don't want to make this trip one minute longer than required. Get your SoCal visit for the glassy winter scheduled.

I hear ya, dude.  Overworked, over-travelled, and under-vacationed...  well, one of these days you've gotta at least spend a few days up here.  I'm down in So-Cal usually at least once a year. Next time I'm there I'll give you a call for sure.   Too bad Shasta is quickly becoming non-existent because it would be fun to try and organize a west-coast Toyota-owners long weekend or something like that down there.  I've never been and have a feeling I never will get to.

The whole Shasta situation is really a shame.  At what point does human intervention become natural??  I understand the thinking behind draining the lake, but while we're at it, we might as well stop driving our cars and boats, dig up our roadways, trample all our buildings, and return the entire country back to...whatever it was.  This is me venting... this is me venting.   :P
