Running Epic21 out of water
« on: November 23, 2016, 15:29:42 pm »
I'm winterizing my Epic21. I've added fuel stablizer and would like to run the engine for a bit to get it in the fuel lines but the lake is an hour away. Is there a hose hookup hidden somewhere or is a plunger the only option for running out of water? Is it safe to run for 30-60 seconds or so without a water connection?

Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate this forum.

Have you drained the cooling system yet? You could get away with 30 seconds but change the impeller in the spring. You can circulate the fuel by turning the key on and pressing the red button that manually runs the fuel pumps, located at the rear of the engine. I would say do NOT run without water on the impeller.

I wouldn't run dry. Just my .02
Pull the hose off at the sea strainer and insert a garden hose. Be aware that you have to get a seal between hoses. I insert one into the other and use the MJ clamp to seal; the open the valve on the garden hose and start the engine. It should belch water out of the exhaust manifolds when running.

If you've already drained the system, do the same thing with RV antifreeze.
