Water overflows bilge
« on: September 26, 2016, 21:05:34 pm »
I am a long time outboard owner and now a new Epic owner.  I purchased the boat knowing it needed a new fuel pump, so I loaded the boat at the lake where I purchased it and took it directly to the marine mechanic.  I picked it up, took it to the lake, saw the plug in the back like my old boat, unloaded the boat, and cruised about a mile when water starting coming out of the bilge.  I had no idea there was a plug under the motor nor that the mechanic had removed it.

I was able to get it back on the trailer, take it home, and dry it out.  Now it only wants to click like a bad solenoid when I try to start it.  Does anyone have any idea where to start?  By the way, I replaced the 11 year old battery with an Optima.

Try the main inline fuse. On a direct drive it's beside the green switch in the engine compartment. If you overflowed the bilge it may have been submerged.

You might also check the breakers above the transmission on the motor, the starter relay is there as well. The location of it is on page 427 of the shop manual.

Also, check the Perko. Try hooking up both leads on the same thread. I had a starting issue at the beginning of the season, and that step helped me find out I needed a new Perko. Quick troubleshooting step.

My $ is on the Perko. Wish I would have thought of that.
