Absolutely the Biggest Wake Needed
« on: April 29, 2003, 22:33:56 pm »
My son Cale and I just returned from Dallas the first Vans Stop where he placed 3rd in Jr. Boy's.
However, he was a little overwelmed by the size of the new xstar's wake.  So, forget about gas useage etc.  What is the way to absolutely get the biggest wake possible on the X22.

Here's what we have.  Our ballast in the back works great.
I keep two 50lb bags of sand up front under the seats.
We have 120lbs of lead plates in the back next to the rear seats I also have 150lbs of sand bags that I move around.
We also have a big fat sack(let's say 500lbs)

So what are the groups thoughts.

I have the SX with 700# internal ballast + 500# side sacs under the front seats, but the wake really gets big with 6 people on board.  I am adding 700# more sacs this spring.  The boat is slow with all the weight and bad mileage.  Congrats on your son.

How do you put the side sacks under the front seats?  There does not seem to be enough room.  Where do you think you will put the big sack.  I was thinking of getting two side sacks on either side of the engine block.  Leave the lead plates in the back and putting the big sack up front in the middle.  Also with all the people on board do you leave everthing filled? Thanks.

I have the SX which has the internal hard sacs.  The overflow tubes from these normally go out the sides of the boat near the driver and on the otherside at the same level.  I took these overfill tubes and ran them to side sacs which have about 225-250# each and they fit perfectly under each front seat.  Then I took the overflow from the side sacs and sent them out of the boat where the internal sacs used to overflow.  When the side sacs are full they extend into the front bow seat and bulge the front seats a little.  They really fit perfect.  You have to be careful when crossing a big wake at slow speeds or water will come over the bow, i.e give it a little gas to raise the bow.  I'll find out which sacs I used.

Atlanta, I would try a Fat Seat to get an idea how the boat responds with around 1200 lbs around the engine. It helps to have the weight near the center of the boat as the engine is somewhat light. Put a sack in the walk through and you will have the biggest wake you can get with reasonable driveability. I don't know what the new Xstar wake is like but I can tell you that the x22 wake is a very nice shape and not small. It is rampy rather than peaky like a Nautique wake. I have an extra Fat Seat you can borrow if you want to give it a try, I'll be back in town Fri afternoon.  678-592-5674

Atlanta, I also have an X-22 and we weight it down using the factory ballast-550lbs, two fat sacs on each side of the engine-500lbs each, and a side sack in the walk through bow area-300lbs. This adds plenty of weight for an awesome wake and it is not too steep. The only thing is the boat takes much longer to get out of the hole. I think I am going to try a different prop, maybe an Acme 3blade.

I have the V-drive S22.
At first I put 500# bags on each side of the engine
with another 500# in the walkway.  I discovered
the 500#s in the back was too much and changed to
350#s.  I did not lose wake size and the boat handled
and pulled better.
Now I have 2 350#s in the side compartments.
Letsgorides 250#s under the bow seats (partially filled). 1 500# in the walkway and 500# lead evenly distibuted throughout the boat.  It totals ~2000# and I think I have dialed in the beggest wake I can get out of the boat.
Its a nice rampy wake and has enough kick to please all that ride in my boat.  Some of the guys that ride with me
own VLX or SAN and say my wake is just as good as theirs just different.

I have a 600 lb fat sack in back with 225lbs. of sand bags.2-100 lb. tractor weights,1 in each side storage.and 6-60lb sand bags in the bow. It's about 1400 lbs.Plus we usually have 2 or 3 peeps go with us.It's not a huge wake like the ones I have ridden behind a camps, but it works for me.I convinced that you don't need a huge wake to pull everything off;we had a local guy that competes regularly ride with us,and he did just fine w/no complaints from him about the wake.
