Boat test articles on Waterskimag.com

If you are interested in reading about your boats, Waterski mag still has all the reviews from back in the day up on their site. Not many pics, but good stuff. They absolutely rave about the boats. I read these years ago, but I still picked up a few things I didn't know or didn't remember. One is that the SX had a 1.46/1 ratio trans for better holeshot.  You S22 guys might think about gearing your boat differently rather than superchargers, etc. The SX had a pretty low top speed in the test, 41 mph and change.

Go to the home page and do a search on toyota.

Great reference.? I was still in diapers when those articles were published, so it is nice to see what the industry thought of our Epics.? I may be out of diapers now, but I still think breastfeeding is pretty cool.

Come on, Pete. One of these days my wife's gonna check out this site, and I'd hate for her to learn that it's as easy as swappin props. Just kiddin, but heck, with the blower you'd have a 3K ballast  holeshot AND 50 mph up top.

Hey guys-

Thought you'd enjoy viewing these old Waterskiingmag.com test videos.? I do--especially this time of year when there is still 3 months to go until even thinking about putting the boat in up in Maine...

Ahhh, the sound of that Lexus V8...keeps me going until the real thing in late June..

Epic SX:? http://www2.worldpub.net/images/special/WS/toyota_epic_sx_ed.mpg

I hope one of you more technically competent computer-types can figure out a way to copy these and save them to our archives.? I've had them for a couple of years, and keep expecting them to be gone the next time I click on them.? Is there any software one of you has that can copy these and save them?  Lesman??

The SX one is already up on the photo gallery, I'll copy the X22 one and post it there too.

Interesting to see how differently the boats ride when you can really see them side by side. ?I hope Waterski magazine did more than just making one turn and popping out of the hole without ballast when reviewing our boats!!

Is it just me or did it look as though the SX and the X both got up to plane in the same amount of time? I analyzed the the video and used the extremely accurate method of one thousand one, one thousand two to come to this conclusion. I have an SX with a four blade and even with stock balast full it gets up in  a hurry.
Cal, you and I will have to run some side-by-side tests this summer.

I have owned and driven both a 2001 X-22 and 2001 SX-22. In my opinion they are stock what they are supposed to be. The X is much nimbler and has a better hole shot. It gets on plane faster, but it is nowhere near as stable. The X can be a rough ride if the wind kicks up a bit. The SX is stable and still has a good hole shot, but it takes longer to get on plane. Turns take longer and you have to have more weight up front to balance her out. When I got my first SX after having the X, I was a bit disappointed in the hole shot, but after putting a 4 blade on it, the hole seemed about the same as the X. Also, the stability factor in the SX is the #1 selling point for my wife, who doesn't like a bumpy ride. No worries in a bit of chop. My wife also prefers the seating configuration and the amount of trunk storage. It is a much better family boat in my opinion. That said, if you ski at all, the X is for you. The wake unballasted is very flat wheras the SX wake is much bigger even unballasted. Not ideal for skiing, but good for beginning boarders. I haven't seen an X with a couple thousand pound on it, but an SX with a few thousand throws a big ol wake. For my family, we far prefer the SX for the type of boating we do and the lakes we ride on. Oh yeah, the X also gets better mileage. The SX is still much better than other boats but we burn more gas in a day with it than we did the X. One final advantage to the X over the SX, it is a cool lookin boat. SX looks tough and cool, but X looks like a manly man's boat. There's my two cents.

Bitzy, that's a GREAT post. We need to cast that in bronze and put it on the home page.

I wish I could own one of each of them.  Maybe some day I will since you can almost have both for the price of one MC,BU, etc...
