Seat Redo
« on: April 09, 2005, 01:12:38 am »
Well, I bit the bullet and dropped my seats off to be recovered at a local place. I gave them the three back seat cushions, my cooler seat, and my jump seat which happens to be the wrong color. I found vinyl that is more robust than the stock stuff and very close if not exact match color wise. The stock vinyl has a fuzzy backing, the repair guy said that it does not hold up well, that's one reason why the seams pull apart. He is going to change the type of the seam on the back seat where the stock seats pull apart after a year or two, it should last this time. Total cost parts and labor= $600 Two to three weeks with no seats, I may have to fab a cover seat for the cooler, I just got a new board and haven't tried it yet:(

That's funny, i just got my cooler seat re-done and the drivers cusion as well.  I too went with different vinyl, and i switched up the colors just a tad.  My two seats were $250.00 so $600.00 does not seem so bad.  Out here in Cali, we had a hot trend and stuffed three pillows in the cooler and then wrapped a king size pillow with a blanket and put it on top, worked out great.

That's a good idea! I have the trusty Fat Seat for the back. It's a little early in the season for me to ride with that much wake, but what the hey. Our weather has sucked so far this spring, cold and wet.

Can you take a pic of your new upholstery? I'll post some of mine when I get it back.

I to took my three back seats in to get them recovered and it is costing me $420.  I thought is seemed like enough, but having some nice seats without tears in them will be worth it.  Down the road, I will never notice that the $420 is gone, but I will notice if my seats are still torn.  Best of luck with your new seats as well.

The prices we are all paying sound pretty close, I'm having them recover a jump seat that is totally the wrong color, so that is a big chunk of the cost. I'll bet it would be around 420 for just the back seats. It's still cheaper than buying skins from Toyota!
