weathered looking fiberglass
« on: June 26, 2005, 06:21:34 am »
so is there a cure for the weathered looking boat?  I feel like the water-line on my boat is becoming more noticeable all the time.  Would a good strong buff take care of it?  How do you buff it when on the trailer, it seems difficult with the guides etc. in the way.  Anyone had any luck with shinning off the water stains to bring the nice white back?
HELP?!

Festivus, I went a little (too) crazy on this project last winter when I had the same concern.  Here is the link to the thread:

http://www.cyclone-cj.com/forum4/index.php?topic=163.0

If I remember correctly, the FSR product I used (I think that's what it was called, blue stuff in a clear jar) worked wonders.  Went on easy, came off easy.  I think it just bleaches all the bacteria and stuff on the gel coat, killing it, and making it white again.  The stuff is messy, but works wonders. Oh, and it's expensive. Don't rememer how much, but I think it was $20-30 for a jar.

If you're worried about fixing the scratches, don't.  All mine came back after about 15-20 launches. 14 hours wasted (but it did make it even whiter, so I guess it was worth it).

Good luck!!

303 Protectant. Use it when drying down the boat and you will like the results. It will not remove existing stain but it will keep the boat looking good.

I've used the FSR (Fiberglass Stain Remover) as well. Works awesome- wipe on, and stain wipes off with minimal effort. Wear rubber gloves because it's acidic and hurts the hands.

I have a dark green and silver gel coat. What works for that?

You can get 303 at any boat store, and at a lot of auto part stores. It is expensive but it is good stuff. I need to get rid of the water stains on my boat, I've heard that SnoBowl toilet cleaner is the sheot. Haven't tried it yet but I will soon and I'll let y'all know.

Most people I know that use 303,dilute it with water, since it is not cheap.I've used it,but with my dark green color, there are streaks if I don't wipe it good enough.

I was told that sno-bowl works good to clean your teak deck.I tried it once,& what do ya know...it does!!Scrub it in with a firm bristle brush(not steel),then spray it off.

I get the 303 by the gallon at shipstore.com Best price anywhere. I spray on before wiping the boat down after pulling out of the water.
