Bad Plug -
« on: August 16, 2005, 03:39:41 am »
I think i have a fouled plug and someone told me I could find which one by removing the plug wires one at a time while the engine was running until a found the one with no difference. It makes sense, but I would not dare do that to that sophisticated engine unless you guys say it's OK. Plus i don;t want to blow myself up or shock the crap out of myself. I've never personally changed them, so this may be a very stupid question.  ???

Sounds like an old school way to do it to me.

It would save like $80, so it might be worth it???

But...I think I know the answer.

I have hard starts every now and then, and it does not "get on it" until about 3-3.5K out of the hole. From what i've read everywhere, that sounds like a bad plug..

DUDE DONT EVEN TRY IT!!!!? :o :o :o 1st off there are no plug wires. our engines are coil on plug, no wire. If you pull that coil out and you become the ground you could (WILL) be hit with about 60,000 volts. :'( :'( :'( no shit, im not kidding. it hurts like hell I dont recommend it.? just buy the plugs, or have someone with an OBD II scan tool look at the missfire monitor. yeah OLD SCHOOL to say the least old cars were only capable of about 20,000 volts.

Lesman, Breakawaydaze found and changed out one bad plug just the way you described.

OK thanks, 2 "Do it's !" don;t override one "Don't" when it comes to 60k volts. THey say it's the AMPs that kill ya... anyway.. unless you want to try at the next SE Epic convention Wreck. My wife and kid would appreciate me being around to pay the bills.

Guess I'll fork over the dough for new plugs..

you can also just pull each injector plug off one at a time, assuming you have easy access, but try the following..

best way if you are handy is too pull all the plugs and look for the 'rich' looking plug, this will also tell you alot about how all your cylinders are running and if you have other issues.  post some close up pic's of the plugs and i am sure plenty on here can diagnose them for you......

best option is too do above and just replace the plugs

I will get Breakawaydaze to do it at the next Roundup. BTW, what was the outcome of your prop swap(May as well go off topic!)

Changed the prop to an acme 525 3 blade 1 1/8 diameter shaft, 13 diameter, 11.5 pitch. used valve grinding compound to seat it. Runs like a champ. No vibration whatsoever. I have not been able to open her up for any extended length, so I'm not sure how my top end is affected. Hole shot is about the same as before, but, like a said, i have a bad plug.
