wake enhancement plate???

Just was curious if any one has ever removed the wake enhancement plate on the rear of their boat, and if so what kind of change took place as far as wake conditions.

I think it was put there to improve the slalom wake, I may take mine off. It should make the back end of the boat sink more and make a bigger wake.

I have the vdrive and would like to soften the wake when skiing.  Is the plate adjustable or just on always?  Would it fit my boat?

If you take it off the boat will porpoise like crazy with a fat sack in the back.

That being said some claim it did knock the table on the wake down a tad and that it reduces spray. It is installed in a recessed pocket molded into the hull though, so I don't think installation on a 99 model would be very practical.

Mr. Gear, that's very interesting. I have decided not to pull mine, probably more trouble than it's worth. I run a lot of weight in the back and it will porpoise without some weight in the front. Usually one of my kids sits up there, so 125 lbs or so.
One interesting feature of the back of my boat is that the trunk extends back past the transom. It is kind of chopped off at the waterline. If you put a sack back there, it is almost behind the boat compared to a typical D drive trunk/transom. I used a locker sack back there plumbed in to my homegrown autoballast, but nixed it in favor of a Fat Seat. It made the wake peakier than it is with weight more centered.

Davidgree: You can buy a trim tab for the back of your boat that would be adjustable from the helm for a couple hundred. Try that and take it off if it doesn't work for you. See a Supra dealer, it is an option on their boats.

Mr. Gear i was just curious if you had removed the wake plate on your boat, i was just curious if the weight up front was almost that of the weight in the rear, would the boat still porpoise?
 
Just was curious after seeing some other boats such as a new Tige, it seems that they have a pretty good sized rooster tail, and being my first inboard not sure if that (the wake plate) is having an effect on the wake? It doesnt seem like my epic 22's rooster tail is that of the tige or a mastercraft. After riding behind a super air nautique, I was under the impression that i might be able to get a simular wake with my inboard.

So i am on a quest to figure out the best way to make a awesome wake, one simular to the super air, i know its probably a pipe dream.

Last question, if i was to remove the wake plate are the screw wholes sealed in the hull, or would water leak into the hull?

The holes go all the way through. You could plug them with the original machine screws and some sealant, it wouldn't leak. I'm not going to try it, the wake on my boat is rampy and huge, not as peaky as a Nautique but wider and bigger. I like it the way it is. I like rampy, I want to go across more than I want to go straight up. Personal thing. It is as big a wake as anybody in a 22 foot boat on the lake. The shape varies a bit from boat to boat but in all honesty, there isn't much difference between (cool) boats. Relax and go have fun.
