I think plugs are always a bad idea. They make you look like you have hair from a little gir's doll. Plus I hear it is very painful having those plugs transplanted. Don't do it man. (how's that for an off topic reply?)

Recommend replacing plugs like any other marine engine after 1 year or if any performance issues start. There have been some problems with the Auto light 3923, and Champions. Plug have broken in head (whoops) maybe was cross threaded. Champions plug tips vaporized. I use the Autolights as a test.

When we were going through and winterizing our boat some moron before us had replaced the plugs with champions and 2 of them had vaporized heads.  Our boat had been running fine on 6 cylinders though.
go with the NGK or better yet denso.
