Looking at used Epic. What questions to ask?
« on: August 02, 2006, 02:27:13 am »
So looking at rbooth's 99 epic that is for sale in the classifieds and got some questions for the epic owners.

When I go to look at the boat in person what should I be looking for? Anything specific things that typically fail? What questions should I ask?

Also the boat has over 700 hrs on it..is that too many? If I get it would I be looking at some extensive repairs in the near future?

Help a new guy out. This would be my first real ski/wakeboard boat. THe last boat was an old bayliner that needed to be fixed everytime you took it out and I really want something reliable.

700 hrs means it's on it's 4th scheduled oil change. It's nothing on that engine.

Take it for a good, long lake test. Make sure your RPM's exceed 5500+, the water temp guage stays below 180, and pull the engine cover on the lake and check for leaks. If it looks great and runs great, it probably is. Like any major purchase, I'd recommend having it checked out (compression check, etc.), if you have any concerns. Other than that, it's a Toyota...enjoy!
