URGENT - CE Approval Information
« on: August 22, 2006, 11:26:08 am »
Hi folks, it's the Leprechaun's again.

Our boat is now on its way to Ireland and I have discovered a potential issue.

Capt Rick maybe you can answer this for us?

Any products being imported into the European Union have to bear a CE mark of approval. (Effectively by bearing this CE mark, it declares that the product is built and works within all legal, environmental, etc laws as laid down by the EU - see this link http://www.eic.ie/faq_cemarking.htm for more info).

Can anyone tell me does the Toyota Epic SX22 have this mark or something similar?

I've heard that customs will impound anything that does not have this mark!!!

Thanks in advance for your help

George

There is no EU mark or mark for export. The boat do meet Japans import rule w/o trailer.

Hey George, I'm guessing the rule doesn't apply to you. How else could you import an antique or used car?  You might want to contact this guy: Peter van der Hoeven @ chello.se  His web site is www.xk19.com. He bought a Chris Craft XK-19 and imported to Europe not to long ago. His second one.

Thanks for your help guys.

The CE approval mark doesn't effect us in any way having the boat in Ireland but apparently UK customs can insist on it. I'm contacting them today and will let you know what I find out.
