water between hull layers...
« on: October 09, 2006, 05:48:04 am »
Hey all,

While winterizing this weekend, I re-noticed (think it has always been this way) an unsealed area between the top finished layer of the hull and just above the threaded area of the forward thru-hull drain just behind the battery (this thru-hull goes directly out the bottom of the boat on the direct drive). In other words, the top layer of the hull on the inside bilge area of the boat. If I push down on the bottom of the bilge near the thru-hull, water will squirt out the small opening at the thru-hull.

Anyone seen this? Any idea how to get it out? I think the finished gray plastic layer in the bilge flexes enough that freezing would never be a problem, but I'd rather not have it in there. Any ideas of other potenital problems Capt Rick?

Thanks!
Brit

Ist what is the Hull Number. Second remove thru hull from boat and see how much water drain from liner.

the hull no. is TMMA0129F001. is this something i should be more concerned about or a hull warranty issue?

also, the liner is basically open on part of the thru-hull so i don't think removing it will allow water to come out more easily...? but, how would i go about removing it?

thanks!

1. Remove engine thru hull from boat. Just so you know how much water could be in the liner.
2. If there is a hard freeze you could damage hull or liner.
3. Better to know then to worry about it .
4. All that needs to be done is dry out hull.
5. Reinstall with silicone so water doesn't not enter liner.

captain rick,

are we talking a thin layer of water between the liner and the hull? or are there spaces between where a larger volume of water might collect? it's such a small opening that i'm not sure it will ever get dry!

There are spaces near the stringers that will allow more water to be stored also in the bow area
