Photos of engine de-installation
« on: October 10, 2006, 11:32:23 am »
Hi folks,

Our engine is now out of the boat and fully stripped. We couldn't see anything strange or startling so the next step is to pressure test both heads which we are hoping will show us where the problem is.

I have posted photos in the gallery - the URL is http://www.epicmarine.com/epicphotos/thumbnails.php?album=25

Cheers

George

check for cracks on block between cylinders and water jackets, where head is mounted.

We have found the crack and they are in both heads. So the search is on. We are looking for two new heads as they are not repairable. Anyone who has an idea where to start looking please let us know.

I have a new head, complete, that I would sell.  Sorry I only have one, the starboard side, if that helps.

Thanks for that info - we'd definitely be interested alright.

Can you tell me a bit about it? Did it come spare with your boat or how did you come by it? Can you pls send me a photo?

Also how much would you be looking for? If you'd prefer to talk about money off-list let me know.

Now then, does anyone know of a PORT-hand head that's up for grabs??!

Thanks

George

I know of several "port heads" around here, but mostly in Utah we drink lemonade.

I would try an LS 400 head, it is the same motor. I doubt the valves are bigger, maybe the springs are stiffer if the cams are more aggressive on the marine motor. I haven't ever heard that there is a significant difference betweein marine and car engines, other than  intake system (throttle body) exhaust manifolds marine fuel pump and certainly the flywheel. I would buy a used Lexus engine if I needed heads. Capt. Rick, what do you know?
