Couple winterizing questions
« on: October 12, 2006, 17:34:45 pm »
i had posted before that i had to remove the exhaust manifold to get the pepcock out of the divers side block.  i am purchasing a new gasket and putting it on.  does anyone know the torque specs for the bolts?  also i cannot get the pepcock out of the passenger side but taking off the oil cooler the block drains from that pepcock anyway so i really don't need to drain it do i?  any info would be great.  thanks

mike

I had a similar issues. It is so difficult to get to. I am thinking about flushing it with 5 gallons of antifreez after engine got warmed up. I figure as long as it prevents freezing, and I will keep her inside of a garage which never gets that cold any way. Any thoughts on that?

I learned the hard way with my Century Arabian that a major concern in winterizing is the coolers.  I warm up the motor, drain the block & exhaust manifolds, start the motor up, run 100% antifreeze through it and then drain everything I could.  As cold as the winters get here in Michigan, I have never had a problem except the first year after I had to replace an oil cooler on a 25 year old boat.  I fog the motor as a last step.
Did I mention I hate winter!

I removed the petcock and ran the hot water feed to my shower off that port so now all I have to do on that side is run the shower dry ;D
