Can someone give me their opinion on how the x22 and the sx22 rate as competition skiboat... I am looking at purchasing a malibu response, but like the look of the toyota's.   thanks for your help...

I'm gonna bump this thread because I'm wondering the same thing.

I've skiied behind a Toyota and it's fine, but I'm wondering how it compares to a Malibu.

Specifically, I'm wondering how a 97 Malibu Response would compare to a 99 Epic 22. I've found two that are around the same price, and I feel like the Epic is just a better all-around boat with a lot more space and a lower-maintenance engine.

Interested to get some other folks' thoughts. Is this as much of a no-brainer as it seems?

Thanks!

I have a 2000 Epic 22 and love skiing behind it. For gas and maintenance alone I'd go for the Epic. The open bow will give you more space but that E21 closed bow is a great boat for skiers. As for the SX's, yes I know they have more open room and some better looking color schemes but they would not make as great of a ski boat with the engine weight in back.

well i have a 99 epic 21 and i ski behind all kinds throughout the year.  The epic has a very soft wake.  if you are skiing anything beyond 22 off it is a blast and hard to find anything in the price range that will beat it

I haven't skied behind an E22, but the E21 and older hull Responses are fairly similar.  I would say my boat has a little more bump at 22 off, but they are quite similar 28 and in.  Probably because the Response is a little shallower in the rear and not quite as wide.  I am biased but there are a list of reasons I would get the Epic over the Malibu.

How competitive of a skier are you?  If you want a family boat that can ski good, the Epic I think is a better choice out of those two.

I can say that the X22 has a small little "double bump" in between the wakes that I haven't seen on the Response. I think it has to do with the wake plate but I could be wrong.  But in terms of family use I would go with the Toyota over the response!
