Towing Question

Hey Everyone,

Happy skiing!   I've towed my '99 Epic 21 with a Tahoe mostly over the last 10 years...I'm thinking about buying a Honda Odyssey and using it to tow short distances (12miles) to a local lake.  I have the single axle Ameritrail trailer with brakes.  The sticker on the trailer says 3600 lbs.  Does anyone know if that is the actual weight of the Epic 21 or if that is the max trailer capacity?  We are skiers at heart, so we leave the back seat out, and keep the fuel under 1/2 a tank to get the weight out of the boat and keep the wake as small as possible. (no offense to my wakeboard brethern out there).  As I understand the Odyssey will tow 3500 lbs.  Again, if I tow it long distances I'll use a Tahoe or truck, so this is  a question for local towing and I really want to know what the boat weighs to see if this is a safe transaction.  Thanks.  Bill

The Epic 21 weighs 2500 lbs dry.  Then you have to add the weight of the trailer, so you are going to be pretty close to capacity, but I am confident the Odyssey is underated so if you are over a couple 100 or so it should be ok.  In order to tow with the Odyssey and to insure the 3500 capacity you have to buy the Odyssey tow package witch includes the hitch, transmission cooler and some other doo dads.  The Odyssesy tow package is about 1150.00 installed by the dealer.  If you just put a hitch on it, you risk transmission failure that will not be covered under warranty.  I wonder if the trailer sticker is stating the capacity of the trailer?  I Run a Honda dealership in SC.  If I can be any other help just let me know!
