No drip coming from shaft seal???
« on: April 04, 2011, 15:17:48 pm »
Over the winter I went ahead and repacked the shaft seal, but when I went out for a lake test I couldn't get a drip of water to come through it.  Has anyone else experienced this after repacking the seal?  I loosened the nut up until it was almost completely out and still got nothing.

Did you remove the old packing first?
How many single rings did you install?
Did you use white teflon ?

I just pulled the old packing out and repacked it with the packing I got from the parts section.  I believe it was teflon.

I replaced my shaft seal with a dripless system two years ago...  it has been absolutely trouble (and Maintenance) free.

However I did plumb the cold water feed to it, for initially I tapped into the shower cold line. This was a mistake for the shower ran too hot... a new dedicated cold water line and all is good. :)

Don't really want to go the dripless route I was getting more than a drip alst year so I decided to fix everythign over the winter.  I was just wondering if maybe it took a little time for the drip to start up once the new packing was put in.
