ball height for trailering

is there an ideal ball height for my dhm trailer under my 2001 sx? I just bought a new truck and am not convinced my old hitch was the right height. New hitch makes up difference in truck height, but I want it right.

It is hard to tell the height that the hitch should be without the trailer on it. When I lower the trailer onto my hitch it drops about 4 inches. I think the only way to do it right is to put it on and adjust the height until the distance between the tire and fender is the same for both axles on the trailer. Mine still tilts slightly forward because when it is level i found that the back tires wear out faster and the prop guard always drags on the asphalt.

When you have the trailer disconnected and on the jack, jack the trailer up to where its level or just leaning forward. Measure the height from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler. Measure the height of your truck's ball mount receiver at the top of the opening to the ground. The difference determines the amount of drop or rise for the ball mount you need ( or the closest one to it ).
