"Wet" winterization???
« on: November 03, 2011, 02:11:04 am »
Last year I stored my boat with the block dry, pulled the drain plugs and drained everything etc... my buddy insisted we store his boat "wet" using the marine anti-freeze.  He didnt have any problems with it and it was super quick and easy to do and this summer we didnt have to put anything together..... has anyway stored their Epic wet?  My concern is the AL block, if I store it wet am I risking excess corrosion or anything of that nature?  Just curious.

I've done it both ways. The Antifreeze you use should be OK for aluminum engines and it will not let any corrosion happen. These motors were designed to freeze but I would not take that chance.

I preffer the dry method. Any water left in the block after I drain it, will have plenty of room to expand.

The largest failure is freeze damage. Replaced a few that had frooze with water in block.

Remember to drain transmission cooler, engine cooler too.

Use a shop vacuum after you disconnect water hose.  Dont forget the two drains on the block and the two on the exhaust manifolds. Do you have heater  or shower. or ballast bags?
