To anyone that has done the timing belt replacement:

Is there a rectangular gasket were the water pump connects at the top? I got the one that came with the Asis pump but not one for the upper end.

Ae we just to use "gasket maker" sealent?

Sorry I don't recall either... I don't remember having to make a gasket out of goo, but I could be mistaken.. It was a few years ago that I completed this job.

This is one of the main ones that I used to do the Sequoia. 2UZ all looks very close to the 1UZ and it's the same belt kit, tensioners, water pump etc. http://m3pink.blogspot.com/2010/11/changing-it-up-toyota-land-cruiser-2uz.html?m=1

All coming back now. No, just clean both surfaces including the groove then apply a bead os silicone in there. BTW, was working on my son's V6 4runner and read that the Toyota black silicone is way mo betta than the stuff at Autozone, etc. Went ahead and got some at the dealership for 5 or 6 bucks and it did seem to go on nicer and looks great now that it's cured. Slept better and will use that stuff on our four Toyotas going forward.

Excellent, thanks for the info.

I am getting all my ducks-in-a-row to do this job done in the fall this year. I think while I am at it, I'll replace the serpentine belt, tensioner and idle pulleys also.

The drive belt tensioner and idler puller bearings were/are questionable on the Sequoia. I did not replace them but they're definitely on the watch list. Read up on replacing just the bearings, but it wasn't a pretty story.
One bonehead mistake I made was leaving the crankshaft position sensor cable unsecured. There is a little plastic fastener down low that I apparently sheered during removal. Bottom line, the cable moved into the serpentine and got cut.
Don't do that :-)

Take part numbers from forum to local Lexus dealer, at least you know you will get quality, not that much more $.
water pump, tensioner, belt, and both pulleys
