Epic 21 low oil pressure?
« on: October 02, 2016, 21:14:19 pm »
This boat is fairly new to me, 320 hours, and I've noticed the oil pressure never gets much over 40 regardless of speed. Is that normal for these? Oil level is fine.

That's normal for mine as well. The sending unit for the oil pressure is also prone to false alarms.

Thanks for the reply! Good to know. So the pressure is probably fine and I shouldn't worry about it? I'd rather have a little more assurance than that. Will replacing the oil sending unit fix the faulty reading?

You can replace the sending unit for about $20. Mine worked for a year and then flaked out again. Now I just hit the reset button on the computer and it goes away. You may also find the sun hits the epic warning lights at the top of the dash and makes them look like they're on. Unless you hear that constant high pitched audible alarm I wouldn't worry. Just my .02.

I'll plan on replacing the sending unit then when I change the oil either at the end of this season or the beginning of next. Is that a standard part that I can just take to the auto parts store and they'll have?

You can order it thru captain rick on this website or get one from a Toyota dealership. i believe it's the same one needed for a V8 Tundra. Check the maintenance guide or the engine manual and you should be able to find the part number. It looks like a 1" diameter brass cylinder located beside the oil filter at the bottom of of the engine.

Until it fails again. The boats have high oil pressure. It fluctuates a lot, wears out the wheatstone bridge (google it Rick) that comprises the oil pressure measurement. So, ignore it. Eventually, the indicator will fail (MMC display of alarm) so it will cease to bother you:)

Or, replace gauges with analog. The gauges are so crappy on all boats besides Nautiques from that era, not worth the stress. Your boat is fiiiiiine
