Hello,
I have a 2000 x22 with 1000 hours. I am new to this forum and have a similar problem...while underway I run a consistent 170 degrees but when I stop to change riders and sit and idle the temp quickly shoots up to 220 plus. How can I get some advice on how to change out my impeller and where do we buy parts? Does this sound like an impeller??? Thanks!

You can find procedures under the 'Epic How-To" menu button. The impeller can be purchased through most of the chains, but in the past I've used Discount Inboard Marine at www.skidim.com because they're on top of their game, are nice folks and treated me really well when I ordered the wrong prop and then took forever to get it back to them. You'll want to get in the habit of changing that thing yearly. It's quick and costs about $30 in parts.

Make sure to thoroughly check your serpentine belt (for looseness and cracking) while you've got it off.

This happens to my SX every now and then. I'v noticed it ONLY after I'v been pullin wakeboarders that like to fall alot (many water starts in a short period of time) and then go to idle for a bit or turn the engine off. I'm no mechanical wizard but I think the increase in temp is form the LEXUS POWER PLANT working extra hard and then getting it's primary means of cooling drasticaly reduced (( our boats do not circulate enough h2o at idle)at least that what a little guage on my dash tells me) or shut off. This is my $.02 on the subject. And I did replace my impeller before the start of this season.

This is too weird. Our SX is getting hot when idle for awhile. It's fine once you put it in neutral and give it some gas, but it never did this last year. New impeller, clean raw water filter, etc.

sometimes the temp will go up if a bad ground or optional equipment has been added.. Do you have a heater or Shower? Test the engine for hot spots or the gauge is not accurate.

Captn, can you exlain why the temperature would go up if you have a bad ground? Does the engine temp actually go up or does the reading just go up?

The temperature gauges are usually accurate except on boats where the ground wire is not good. Then the sender which work on a ohms scales will get more resistance via the gauge sender and give a high false readout. Then the thing-ma-bob causes the flux capacitor to gainmore energy via a induction of field capacitance.

Or make sure you have a good impeller , and good thermostate not stuck, and accesory good grouind like heaters. Also the strainer is not sucking air. Then feel the manifold to see if the are too hot to touch. The 2000 + gauges will read high temp and low oil pressure and low voltage, but are from weal ground wires.

Thanks cptn. My flux capacitor is putting out 1.21 jiggawatts just as the manual indicates  ;D.

Are you refering to the intake manifold on top or should I really be able to touch the exhaust manifold at running temp? Ouch!

is there any solution for the "weak ground wires"?

Install a #10 gauges wire from battery to the decc box or common ground under dash. Install ground from heater to new ground.

Temperature problem solved. SO far.

I ran 10 gauge wire from the negative battery terminal to the ground post under the dash and that seemed to solve my hi temp problem.

Went our last weekend and the temperature guage never went above 170. Before i did it, it would ALWAYS hoover around 180-190.... and sporadically spike above 200, setting off that darn alarm.

It did not, however, keep the oil pressure alarm and the volt alarm from going off. I know that the volt meter is wrong because I compared it to the Perfect Pass volt meter and they were off.

Also, the water was noticably cooler than it was when the temperature was spiking, and it was like 80 degrees outside instead of like, 100. So, that likely contributed to the cooler temp.

Thanks for the tip Captn Rick! Hopefully it'll help others, too.

I've got the SAME issue as Hyflyin described. Hey, wait, it's the same boat AHAHAHHAHHHA

My new SX has the same problem. Scared the crap out of me at first. I'm gonna run the ground wire, and a few hundred other wires, when I put the massive system in.

All the other gauges and everything else works like a champ on this boat.

Mine did this once two weekends ago after I installed all of my stereo crap... had never done it before.  I freaked out for a second and thought... (did I install the impeller BACKWARDS??).  I turned the boat off for a minute, started it back up, and the thermostat was back to normal.  Hasn't done it again.  Funny we all have the same problem at the same time, though.

It's probably all that BASS thumping something loose.  All of you guys seem to have major sound system upgrades.

Not the same...but kind of similar....I keep getting the "batt low" message.  It's a new optima and I have an LED indicator (direct wired to the batt) that shows 13v but the digital display keeps giving me that damn warning message.  K-town said he read on here somewheres about running a wire from the gauge to something?  seen this before? any suggestions?   thanks.
