Depth Finder
« on: December 13, 2005, 15:49:05 pm »
I have the digital depth finder as part of the Accuski in my 2000 Epic X22.  I have tried my depth finder time and time again on different lakes, but it seems to never work.  I am wondering if anyone has had this problem or has a solution for me to solve this problem?  If so, let me know.  Thanks

Mine stopped working recently, I think it is just a problem with the 12vdc power to the unit. I am in the process of cleaning up the wiring this winter, I will post whatever info I find.

Is the depth finder display available in the gauge window? If the box is powered up and the device is recognized by the MMDC, there should be a menu selection for the depth finder and a depth displayed, even if it is a bogus number.

If that is the case, the transducer (glued to hull in bilge somewhere) probably came loose or quit working. Try peeling it up and gluing it back down, someone may have glued it down with silicone.

The digital panel works just fine.  It continually says BAD SIGNAL or something like that.  So maybe it has something to do with the device that does the reading.  Where did you say that would be located?  What does it look like?  Thanks

There are two boxes under your dash, one of them has a connector with a black wire coming out of the front. Follow that wire down into your bilge, you will find the transducer. It looks like a small hockey puck and is glued into a depression in the bilge. The depression should contact the hull of the boat so that there is no air space under the transducer. Sometimes, boat dealers glue the thing down with silicone. It works for a while but water or air will work it's way underneath. Peel it up, clean it off, and glue it down with no air bubbles with silicone. See if it works and report back to us:)

I have finally gotten around to getting the depth finder to get a good read.  Crazy that is has just about been a year since I requested information, but that is life.  Cyclone, I am pretty sure that I found the hockey puck looking device that does the reading.  Mine is located behind the engine on the driver's side of the boat.  Could that be correct?  It looks like a puck with some rubber flaps sticking out of top.  It seems to be sealed down pretty good yet, so what should I do to get it loose and off to clean it?  I have tried to puch and pull it off, but it will not budge.  Any suggestions?  I would like to get it working so I can get some depths read because we are starting to go to a different lake.  Thanks for your help.

Do I have to be cautious about cutting through anything on the device or the floor of the boat?  It looks like they have a ton of silicone under it and stretched out around it about an 1" or 2"  Thanks for the help.

What I mean by a DW knife is a flexable knife used to put DW mud on the walls

Where could I get a Knife like that?  Would a utility knife work?  What about a razor blade?  So there is nothing that I can wreck on the device or the hull itself when I try to get it off?   Thanks again for your help.

Alright guys!!  I got the old silicone off and resealed the depth finder with new silicone.  Without being in the water, I turned the key on and went to the depth finder mode with accuski.  It still says BAD STATUS.  ??? Do I need to be in the water in order to get a read?  If not, what is my next option to get this thing working?  The wiring runs alongside the exhaust to the back of the boat and then runs up the side of the boat to the driver's dash.  Would that wiring having any bad connections or would being by the exhaust have an affect on it?  Any ideas let me know.  Thanks

When you re-installed the trans deucer You put a nice even coat of silicone on it and  push it in place and the excess came out so there are no air bubbles between the transdeucer and the hull of the boat
