Two weeks to go-
I do plan to "reserve" an island by pitching a tent mid-week. It will be directly across from Payne's Creek public boat launch. For those wanting to camp, Payne's Creek campground will be ideal. To get to the boat launch, exit I-85 at Exit 177. This is the last exit in Georgia before entering SC. Go right on SR59/77 (Providence Church Rd) for 5 miiles. Turn left on Junction 77. There wiill be a gas station on the right. Go 2.1 miles until you dead end at Mt. Olivet Rd where you will turn left. At the point where this road makes a right angle turn (about 3.5 miles) go straight for a few hundred yds until you turn left on Payne's Creek Rd. Follow it to the boat ramp. There will be signs for the campground the entire way so it will be hard to get lost.
SC guys have an alternative. You can get off I-85 at Exit 2 and go left to Lakeshore campground whiich has a public boat ramp. It is about a mile or so off the highway. This wiill save you about 15 miles each way but wiill be a little further to the island by boat - however, that is a good thing! If you plan to do this, let me know and ?I will try to get you a map to the spot.
Everyone post when you think you might arrive.
My place will also be open to all. I can't go out on a limb just yet regarding overnight accomodations until I know if my sister and her clan still plans to come visit that weekend.
If anyone wants anything more organized than drinking beer, soaking up sun and checkiing out everyone's boat, feel free to toss out ideas.
