Work is a little slow right now anyway, I'll go out and pull the covers and check it out again and tell you what colors they were and even take a pic.

Yeah - that's an amp.  My thingy is not like that.  It looks like an MDC and doesn't have any obvious plates or names on it.  Just a black box about 1x5x9 with a LOT of wires going into it.  I also have that grn/blk/blk wire you show - so that's not the ballast wiring, (just running from memory here) I also have about 15-25 feet of 1/2" corrugated tube - full of wire - all bundled up with a quick-tie to the right of the box.  Suppose it could be an amp of some sort - will have to track the wires & see where they go.
