I am gonna camp most of the time.
You could do the same.  I think there are even some places with cabins so you don't have to throw down a tent.

Kirk,

I should be able to meet you at least once during your time here.  I'll send you my cell and you can call when you get to town.

Westtx,

We can still get together on the 21st if you would like, or push it back to the next weekend (not sure if Texas is playing at home).  I am more than willing to spend both weekends on the lake (twist my arm).

Blindside,

Plenty of room on the boat, crutches and all!  Unfortunately, I'm living in base housing at Laughlin with my wife and 2 kids, 2 dogs, and only a 1400 sqft home.  I might be able to swing a room on base for about 35.00 a night though.  Let me know if you think you might make it, and I will try to reserve something.

Excellent, I will be waiting on your info.  I need some advice on where I should put in and the best location to setup a camp.

KTOWN, I sure appreciate the offer but Laughlin AFB is a little further than I wanted to go for a weekend trip.  I was thinking something at Austin....

Blindside,

Maybe we will plan an Austin round-up next year sometime!  Probably a good meeting place for most of the Texas crowd, and a lot more exciting than Del Rio.

Westtx,

Are you still planning on being here this weekend.  It looks like it will just be you and us locals this weekend.  Let me know when you decide if you are going to make it.

Looks like I'm going to have to miss it as well. Turns out I have to leave town on Sunday. I was hoping for one last trip before winterizing, but the weekends are getting full. I still want to get down and see Amistad -- it looks like a lot of water is pouring in there again!

No problem.  We have a mini-roundup almost every weekend now that flyn2001 has his new X22.  Maybe we can all get together next year!

Ktown,

You still going to be around during the week?
I will most likely arrive mid-day on sunday unless we get distracted for a short time by another body of water in west texas.  At the latest, we will roll in late Sunday.

I will be around all week.  I may be able to get out one day during the week, but if not, I can meet you on Saturday.  FLYN2001 should be around as well.  I will send you my cell number tonight.  As for places to stay and where to put the boat in.  I don't really know which camping area is the best, but would recommend staying either out by Rough Canyon (on the devil's river) for easy access to the lake or closer to town (easier access to Mexico and Del Rio).  As for launching your boat, I would highly recommend Rough Canyon.  It is a larger ramp that puts-in directly into the Devil's river.  You can drive up the river about 15 minutes to some great blue/green water (about 3-6 feet deep) and swim eat and hang out.  From the point you put your boat in the water to the swim hole, is normally pretty good boarding water.  I would recommend staying close to the Eastern side of the river.  The water always seems calmer.  Another option is to put your boat in the Black Brush ramp, but you have to drive accross the lake and on windy days that's a pain.  Durning the week you should have the lake to yourself and on Saturday you may have a few boarders still out and about.  Most of the traffic is fishermen.  I will try to email you a map to Rough Canyon.  Sorry I am no help with the camping bit.  Talk to you soon.

I am back from Amistad.
But not without incedent.  K-town and flyin2001 will be interested to hear that my 'driver' crashed the prop into some rocks in the Pecos on the last day.

Oh well at least it was the last day.  I will send some pics of the carnage when I get the chance.

On a lighter note, everyone on this board within a reasonable distance of Amistad needs to go.  It is gorgeous down there.

Are you kidding??  Dude, i'm sorry to hear that.  Did it just mess up the prop or did it cause more damage?  Well I guess the good news is that you have the off season to get it fixed.  As I recall K-Town and I owe you guys some beers (and desserts) so if your boat isn't squared away by the time we make our way to Lake Travis, you've got 2 other epics to board behind.  Keep in touch bro.  flyn2001.

Well the prop is toast for sure.
The shaft mount is also slightly bent.  (that vertical fixture that the shaft spins in outside the hull)
Not sure if i need to replace it or just bend it back until the shaft spins freely.

I will probably ask that question of the site later.
The boat will definitely be squared away before next season.
On another note, we found out that my driver (roy) actually tore part of his hamstring from his hip.  Nice huh.  Worst part is, we had a snowboard trip planned for December, and that is out because of the injury.

Remember the invite is open if you guys make an excursion to DFW anytime.

Thanks again for the invite....  I can't believe Roy injured himself that badly!!  Is he going to need surgery? Kind of funny that we were saying skating was better on the knees huh?? ..just bad on the Ham's I guess.  Speaking of knees...I just got back from the surgeon's office today for my gimp a$$.  He said everything looks good and that I just strained my knee.  He pretty much told me he wasn't thrilled with the idea of me wakeboarding again this year though.  Guess I will just wait until next spring.  That sucks about your boat man, I bet there are some folks on this website that could answer your questions on fixing it.  If I had to guess, I think it would be difficult to bend that back to perfect, which could lead to unwanted friction and wear..but what do I know?  Good luck with it and like I said, the offer stands on my boat as well.  see ya.
