Epic Arrived Today - First Run
« on: July 05, 2006, 05:48:34 am »
After 6 months of staring at this damn board, I can finally say I am an offical memeber. My shipper arrived with my epic today, after draggin 2000 miles to florida....

So, we took her out for a first day run. Little bumpy, but pretty good. Here she is:

Few things I have to get taken care of....I'm totally new to boats, so any advice ya'll give would be greatly appreciated.

1) Noticed a signficant amount of water collecting in the hull that the bilge kept pumping out. Opened the engine compartment and there is a pretty sever lead coming from the top of the drive shaft, about where it meets the tranny/engine. Not sure what this is about, but obviously I gotta fix it, or get it fixed.

2) Speedometer was ALL out of wack. 10-60-20-60.....totally random, and would get stuck in certain places. I didn't even try the perfect pass since I figure this is speed measure it uses.

3) My little LCD screen thing on my dash keep flashing at me, whenever I would slow the boat to an idol, it would say "Oil pressure low, Oil presure low" and it was reading about 14-16, and it said minimum tolerance was 20. It was fine when the engine reved, only had issues durning idol

4) That little LCD screen also kept flashing that my voltage on my battery was to low....it would be fine, then would blink for 2 or 3 minutes, then would be fine again for 30 min. Didn't seem to have any corilation to engine throttle or speed.

5) When I press the NAV Lights button, all the lights on the buttons start flashing, and none of them work. I need to disconnect the battery to get it working again.

Thats that.......other thing I wanted to ask was, the seats need a gooood cleaning to get that tough dirt off that 409 couldn't get. Need to find a good, strong, cleaning solution for the seats....any recomendations??

Thanks all =)

HAH, Totally the same problems that everyone else has, none are serious. Tighten the packing nut on your drive shaft, replace your oil sender if the alarm bothers you, run new dash power wires if the voltage alarm bothers you.

Put Perfect Pass on it fer sher, don't worry about the worthless factory speedo.

Do a search on any of these topics for a broken record of the same issues. No big whup!

Welcome to the club:) I have 731 hrs on mine so far with no real issues, other than what you mention.

Sweet boat! I just picked mine up a week ago, and I have a lot of the same problems. Try reseting the battery first (should be a switch in the engine compartment, next to the starboard side). This cleared a lot of the little bugs right away. If they come back, try some of the great fixes you will find in the forums.

Thx Cyclone....I'll seach the board for fixes today.

You said put perfect pass on her. The boat has accuski.....isn't that the perfect pass?? As far as I know, the previous owner told me it came from the factory and is ready to go. The analog speedo and the digital speedo on the screen were all out of wack.....isn't this the speed measure that that accuski will use? So, if that is out of wack....accuski will be out of wack?

Or does the accuski use a seperate spead measurement??

Or am I way off base here?

Welcome, and hang in there with these issues! Never seen the Nav lights one, but expect things to get a lot more simple after the new power wires, oil pressure sender during next service, and at worst case, new propshaft packing.

Now THAT's a proper intoduction: pics first, intro second! Great job, nice boat, and welcome, Malo!

The epics come from the factory with the Accuski controller built in, but there is also an actuator required at the engine that was optional, but required for speed control. The computer that drives Accuski also drives your dash gauges and another computer drives your accessories. This is all common stuff with boats of its genre. The message center and speedo displays are driven from the same pitot pickup at the transom. Try peeking through the venturi - use a pin or wire to clear if it's blocked.

Even if you had the full Accuski package installed, it's still a POS for anything but slalom. Pete's mentioned Perfect Pass - this system's like a $grand and actually does what Accuski was supposed to do. Set it to 22, pull the rider up, hear a beep and go back to sleep as it holds 22. Also, PP uses paddlewheel speedos which are just not susceptible to clogging or fouling of any sort and are accurate at all speeds.

There's a TON of related info on this site, so make sure you look around.

Thansk for the info man. I'm taking the boat to Central FL Boating (from the dealer list on this site) to see if they can take care of some of this for me.

When I'm down there, I'll see if they'll price perfect pass for me. By the way, what gauge is typically replaced with the perfect pass gauge??

Funny how everyone asked Capt Rick questions on this board.....and then I take my boat to Central Florida Boaiting to get repaired and they said "we called rick to ask him what to do".

Heh.

The screwy battery alarm, they want to replace my whole MCD board, or was it MCZ, or MDC, whatever....the board that runs all the guages. 550 bucks ouch! I'm asked them to try the power wire first....we'll see.
