Cleaning inside the hull?
« on: July 08, 2006, 02:16:49 am »
I would like to clean the grime out of the inside of my hull.  It seems that the previous owner never cleaned under the floor boards or back by the Vdrive.  Any good advice for cleaning under the floor boards and vdrive area?  Do I risk clogging up the bilge pump?

Thanks,

Ktown

As with many activities on a v-drive, a thorough bilge cleaning will start with emptying and removing the fuel tank. It's a pain though. Once it's out, you have access to the whole bilge. It's also a good time to mount the optional skeg on an S22.

They do sell 'bilge cleaner' chemicals, but nothing beats elbow grease.

Outside removing the gas tank, any other way to clean the bilge? Chemicals that work good? degreaser? water hose? Any chemicals/areas to avoid?

It is gelcoated, you can use that purple cleaner degreaser stuff. I personally wouldn't remove the fuel tank, seems kinda drastic. try not to get the purple stuff on the carpet or upholstery.

I usually do it once or twice a year, then wipe it clean and shiny with paper towels. Mine looks like new down there:)

I guess I'll see soon enough if gas tank removal is necessary when I get my V drive SX WOHOO!
