Dream Come True
« on: August 14, 2006, 18:47:47 pm »
As an avid reader of Epicmarine.com, and a close friend of an Epic 22 owner, I have fallen in love with Toyota boats.? However being 25 and recently married I never imagined I could ever afford an Epic.? ?Over the weekend a dream came true for my wife and I.? ;D? We located and purchased an Epic that "needed saving" at a price we could afford.? The boat needs a great deal of care and lots of general maintenance, but my wife and I look forward to bringing our new 1999 Epic22 back to life.?

I wanted to let everyone on this site know how much I appreciate the information and support each of you give to each other.? I'm certain that during our on-going restoration process I am going to have numerous questions. I am very grateful to have a resource such as Epicmarine.com.

Thanks
Brandon & Erin

BA2397, congrats on becoming an owner. You obviously have been a follower as you knew to post a picture!! As you also already know, there is no better group of folks willing to help you get your "new" Epic back into shape. There is a ton of info on the site but always feel free to ask questions.

BTW, change the plugs. That's right, if your gelcoat is dull, change the plugs. If your seats need to be reconditioned, change the plugs. Seriously, new plugs are the cure for 99% of all problems with these boats- this from a guy with at least 2 yr old Autolites but hey, I bought the plugs and just keep waiting for something to go wrong so I can install them.

Welcome Brandon & Erin!I'm sure you're going to add your share to the collective!

Before you get into her, make sure you take pics all along the way. I've photographed a lot of maybe meaningless stuff, but when I really needed to have the camera out (when I pulled the tank, installed under-tank insulation, tracking skeg & ice box drain, AND when I had every piece of upholstery out of the boat except the engine and trunk covers to remount my tower), I got caught up in the schedule and didn't photgraph anything. Those things were like once in a lifetime items.

Anyhoo, welcome!

9091901210   SparkPlug,VT300i,Each  $15.50 each or 3923 Autolights with .043" gap. If it aint broke dont fix it. But think about Impeller and valve stems on trailers....

Welcome to the Epic "needed saving" family----  let me tell you its an expensive family to be in but you'll have a blast... Just remember to pray to Posidon the Greek god of the Sea and ask for his blessings daily.  haha---

As to the plugs, the best price I have found for the highly recommended Densos (when shipping is considered) is at rockauto.com. They deliver overnight!

DENSO 3297 (SK20R11) Spark Plug $ 9.36 x 8 = $ 74.88
Shipping   $ 5.93
Order Total   $ 80.81

Hi Everyone! I am the other half of the Dream Come True boat duo.  Obviously we haven't been praying to the water Gods enough. This past friday our Auto Bilge stopped working and we've discovered our blower isn't working.  Any ideas? or is this a job for professionals only?
Thank you for all of your comments and help we truely appreciate it.

I just replaced my bilge pump with a Rule 500 on my own, which was my first repair on my 99 E22. If I can handle it I am sure you guys should be able too do it no problem! Not sure on the blower, but the directions in the maintenance section seem manageable. If you need any of my limited advice I am happy to help, but there are way more people on here qualified to give you details.

Well, both should be pretty easy jobs.  One thing with boats, in general, is that you can't ever expect to go to the lake without a problem.  Always expect something to go wrong (and if you own a Toyota most of the time you get off the lake without a problem)  but just know that with boats you always have that looming in the back ground.  The blower was a simple job for me the hardest part I found was the location.  The bilge should be pretty easy as well because of the location- which is under the battery floor board.  Pretty Much anything dealing with these AWESOME Toyota boats is User friendly - you just have to be willing to sacrifice a Saturday afternoon in the driveway working on your boat verses a Saturday afternoon on the water.  I guess we should make an Epic Restoration Committee - Dedicated to the Restoration of the very few unloved Epics.  I'll be the chairman and I'll expect all you epic owners to make a donation to be divided among those of us who wish we had the money to be the Original owners of the very rare- very unique- Toyota Epics.
