Thanks to Derek, we now have some Vdrive maintenance info up on the site. I posted this and the Ballast Calculator to the How_TO page for future reference.

Thanks, Pete!

I hope we can get a trailer maintenance presentation together (fluid drain & bleed) and a good engine alignment procedure.

Oh yeah, it's 5.5 megs, so you ought to right-click and save as.

Man, That's awesome! Gives me confidence I could probably do that! Derek, how long - start to finish, does that take you?

The first run through took me most of a weekend, but I removed all the bulkheads, took my time and drooled, took pictures, then had to clean up all the drool.

This time was the third time, and despite taking the extra time to take pictures and pose all the goodies, it was like four hours or so.

Best time was January-ish 2004, which was maybe like 2-ish hours. But I think I might have dropped a couple drips.

Just so you know, the engine is friggin dirty in these pics - I usually like to take the time and wipe it all down while it's open. Also, one time this last fall, we ended up getting a bilge full of rain water. I opened the hatch and the engine was just covered with condensation. I think this year, I noticed more rust spots than before, especially around the serpentine pulleys. What a shitter, man. It's a crime for me to be storing this thing outside.

Wow.? That is nice work, way to go Derek.? BTW, nice toes in impeller shot... ;)

This site and the information y'all have taken the time to provide for us is absolutely invaluable to me, and is officially the number 1 reason my Toyota's not going anywhere. The more I think about it, the more I think I'm likely going to be a lifer...

WOW!!!   DEREK, YOU ARE THE MAN..

This info is so valuable.  I know that I can do all of those things myself by following your great instructions.  No more trips to Skimasters for general maintenence.  Wait a second, I have a bitchin Toyota S22 that will probably only require general maintenence. So, maybe no more trips to Skimasters at all, COOL.

I am proud to be one of the few who own a Toyota boat, and have a forum such as this to help all of us out with anything Epic related.

Derek, thanks again for all your help!!

Thanks for the props! No go save yourself some cash!!!

I need to get a picture of the old impeller so you can see how fresh it looks. You might say that's a waste of $30, but I'm sure most guys log more time than I did last year. Better to be safe than sorry, right?

Derek:
I just wanted to thank you for publishing this maintenance doc. You saved me at least a half a day in trying to figure it out based on the Toyota manual. Hope all is well with you. ...Cheers, Gary

You're welcome, Gary. Hope you're getting more hours on that nice S22 than mine's getting this year :-(

Things were tough with travel last year, and this year I'm finishing up my MBA. No time for much besides school, work and the Corona Pony Pinto Braves (11 & 1).

I just want eveyone to know how easy it was to change all my fluids.  I followed Derek's maintenence doc to the T, and it went so smooth it shocked me.  I am not mechanical at all, but I feel like I am now.  Following Derek's manual saved me a couple hundred bucks and I feel more comfortable doing my own maintenence on my 01 S22

Derek, Thanks again

So I haven't been worrying about the fluids so much - after all, where would they go...?  Check them every second or third time I get her out and all's fine.  My neighbour has a new BU and his dealer warned him that the V-drive would use some fluid.  Last weekend (at about 75 hours) he added two (yes 2 !!) litres of SAE 30 motor oil (! ?) to it.  Couldn't believe my eyes.  Anyhow, the question is - should the Toyota (2001 SX) be using fluids (trans and/or V-drive) or should it not.  It's not - but if it should, that'd need looking in to.
