Well, I have been going nuts over here at EpicMarine central. I used to think this stuff was way too boy racerish but lately my tastes have been broadening. I saw a bunch of boats on wakeworld and that were lit up with high bright LED lights, I thought about how darn cool the Epic dash is at night with the red lights. I decided that I would put a pantload of red LEDs in my boat, they don't pull any current to speak of, and my existing "courtesy" lights are about worthless. There is a red LED replacement bulb for our stock courtesy lights, btw.
I looked at the two styles of LED lights, they evolved out of the dork pc modder world, and weren't really suited to boat use, just a molded plastic shell with a coupla leds globbed together with solder. They are also expensive, about 6 bucks ea, more for the nice ones from owl lighting. I think mine are as good or better than anyones design and construction wise.
These are hand made protos, and I firmly believe that the hardest thing to do in the world is to create two objects of the same dimensions with hand tools. I suck at it. If I ever am a Richard Branson type dude, giving away Epic Industries to a game show contestant, I'm going to make the contestants for my millions make two objects of the same size with hand tools, if they fail, I will humiliate them in front of the world because it is so obvious and pathetic that they have failed.
In real life, they don't take long to make and I made them from the round scrap that I cut out of the kickpanel, so I started with no straight lines. Six holes, three leds, one resistor, two wires and some 5 min epoxy. I'm gonna put them in places where only the light can be seen, like under the dash, by the shifter pointing down at the drivers cup holder, heh. I think I'll put three on each side inside the side storage. I may put some in the black supports for my bow cushion, pointing down to light the walkway. I may embed one on each side in one of the bow cushions, illuminating the cupholder, etc. All red in my case but the color doesn't matter.
