New Owner of S22--Question re: tower
« on: September 12, 2006, 06:51:56 am »
We just picked up our new 2000 S22 over this past weekend and we are very happy with it so far.  The original owner took incredible care of it and thanks to this site for helping us find it.  Here is the question:
We have an extra long pass through garage, but it has a standard height of 7 ft.  In order for our boat to fit, we have to completely remove the top of the tower, it is about 6-8 inches too tall even when folded down at the break.  Has anyone else had this problem and if so, any suggestions or solutions?  Taking the tower completely off is a real pain, and our only other option is to make our garage opening taller.  Thanks

Does the top half of the tower come off? Assume you looked into that....

I wonder if you could find some small diameter wheels? Something that would give you that extra six inches for rolling into the garage for the winter. You may not have the clearance on the bottom of the trailer though, but something to look at before remodeling the garage or taking the tower off. Oy!

I have the same boat, same problem I take the tower off at the end of every weekend and suspend the tower from the ceiling, removing it takes about 5 minutes.Redoing the garage opening could get quite expensive ,and then the garage door to match the opening.Get a racket with a #8 hex it goes much faster and much cheaper.

If you lower the tonque ht maybe give you 6-8 inchs. Remove the tower top like Pat does not the base.

Looks like we have the same or similar bimini/shade.  Since the boat was registered in Utah, the same company must have done it.

When I fold my tower down, I can clear my garage door.  I'll have to go measure the height.

Congratulations on the boat!  Looks very nice.  Have you put it on our registry?

let the air out of the tires or mod the door so it goes up higher

I do only remove the top of the tower.  I've tried lowering the hitch and looked at letting air out of the tires, but it doesn't look like that is going to be enough.

For now I'm going to keep removing the top of the tower.  Thanks for the ideas.  I'll try to register tonight.

If its a standard 7' opening You can get an 1" from adjusting the door another 1/2" from the weather strip and a 4" drop on the hitch only nets an 1 1/2" your still 4"short any lower you'll hit the ramp , air in the tires gets nothing its in the rear.Get the bike pulley system they sell in Lowe's and mount it to the ceiling and suspend the tower. It takes me no more than 10 minutes, and its in the garage.

Its hell being 4" short,
I ran into the same problem with my E-22. I placed rubber coated hangers
from the ceiling in a triangle pattern & they worked great. I also kept a 1/4 ratchet w/Allen drive in the glove box for quick removal. be careful not to bang the window shield. Also have a tube of
Graphite handy for lubing the bolts. Aluminum doesn't like to be screwed too much without it.
Now I have space at my office that we back right in, 10' opening &
10 minutes closer to the lake. Next, house on the lake w/a lift.
All most there.

My garage door is 7'10".  Not too much clearance with my tower folded down but sufficient.

Not sure I have any solutions for you other than your current option.

I'd much rather be 10 inches long than 4 inches short
