Malibu Conversion Trip
« on: September 20, 2006, 20:31:39 pm »
I promise that I am not trying to solicit Epic owners to become Malibu owners, but...
with myself and my brother both switching over this summer, my brother in law is next.  I have three whole days on the Lake of Ozarks with him and my Malibu, so I'll have to see what headway I can make.....  I think that surf wake should do the trick.

Have no fear, I love my boat. Fest is just trying to make himself feel better about his gas bill.

Well, spent a fun weekend with Fest at Lake of the Ozarks. Very nice. Learned how to sky ski a bit which sucks cuz now I gotta buy one. I must say that Fest's boat is a sweet ride. Roomy and one heckuva (thats a Utah term which means "neato") wake. We were riding around with 10 adults in the cockpit and the front ballast full and that wake popped like Orville Redenbacher. Still scares me though. That lake made me hate the federal and state govment even more than I already did. It was sweet to have a giant lake that is half privately owned and half state park. All the services (gas, restaurants, lodging, etc.) were available to drive up to with the boat. Here in Utah the gov'ment owns everything and there is no private land adjoining the lakes. There are just gov'ment concessionaires (ain't that a monopoly?) who gouge you and have crappy services. I think it would be sweeeeet if Powell and Mead had some (even a small amount) private shoreline and the gov'ment had the rest to protect it from destruction. Wait, what am I saying? I love to pay my huge taxes and then have the park service charge me an entrance fee and a boat use fee to use the lake. I also love to pay their monopoly company cashola to stay in one star trailers. Utah, the land grant state. Too bad all the land was granted to the gov'ment by the gov'ment. Thanks Fest for a great but all too short weekend.

So does Fest tow his Malibu from Colorado to Missouri and back in order to visit Lake of the Ozarks?

Quite the gas bill not to mention the one on the water!

Bitz - from your reputation, the 1 star trailers are your specialty?  Mine too, since we usually book one when we go to Lake Powell.

I was actually congratulating them on them there one star trailers. Nothin' like stayin in a place with a indoor toilet. Sweet!

We have a friend with an F-650 crew cab with a regular truck bed on it. It is a monster. The hood with the stock tires and suspension is about six inches taller than me. He towed the boat over this time and we split the petrol 5 ways. It still hurts. Those poor Colorado slobs have no big lake within any proximity. Powell is like 9 hours to Bullfrog and Ozarks is like 13 hours. You gotta give Fest credit for being a serious boating enthusiast. Javman was there too, but he flew in like me.

I do feel mildly guilty about whimping out on the 14 hour drive and flying instead.
What a great trip.  Still catching up on sleep though.

Javman, I'm with you when it comes to anything over 7hrs in a vehicle.

Fest, there's a reason for the sites ability to accept high resolution pictures. Put some up here, that one especially. Or in the photo gallery. It's a beauty way ta go, eh?

OMG - I cannot imagine the stares you must have gotten rolling down the road. I am currently looking for a Tundra to pull my boat - it would be used in lieu of a spare tire in that rig.
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

we did have a few stares and open-sunroof waves.  The 650 towed pretty good, I can't believe how small it made my boat look.  Here is another pic w/o me in it.

and a few pics of the guys.  Bitzco is gonna be a sky ski pimp by next summer, Javman is already one.  Me...no pimpin' but I sure think it is fun.  The water was worth the drive, about mid 70's, and at times, glassy as my eyes after that drive....
