Perfect Pass for Toyota!
« on: October 23, 2003, 19:43:57 pm »
I spoke at length to an engineer at Perfect Pass, there are only very minor issues with putting Perfect Pass on Epics. There must be a small bracket fabricated to make clearance for the throttle cable, and a good location for the paddle wheel must be determined. Paddle wheel location is not a problem on the D drives, but on the Vdrives there are a couple of issues, no show stoppers. I am going to purchase the Wakeboard Pro system for my boat, and design a bracket. PP will take the design and have official parts made for a true bolt-on package for our boats. I will need some help from someone with a Vdrive boat in fitting the system and determining tuning parameters for those boats. I have money burning a hole in my pocket and will get started as soon as the system arrives!

Here is a picture. The plastic engine cover may need to be modified slightly, or just removed.

Let me know how it works, especially at wakeboard speeds and fully weighted..  I have accuski which works fair on rpm but not on mph at 20mph.
I have a vdrive.

PP said that it works perfectly, they just had never finished designing the small parts because there was not much demand. They said that on the V drive, the only thing that they aren't sure about is where to mount the paddle wheel. They said to look in the bilge around the Vdrive transmission for an open area 6-8" off center not obstructed by the gas tanks or water tanks, then look underneath the boat in that spot and make sure that there are no hull features or water intakes, etc. that would cause turbulence before the paddle wheel. They didn't think it would be a big deal, they just never had a boat to try it on and make measurements for a recommended spot. It's good that you have an SX, because if you find a good spot, it will probably work fine on the S22 as well.

I ordered the Wakeboard Pro with the 5" dash gauge, it will replace the Accuski multigauge. The only important function I will lose is a display for my depth finder, but I think I can get a standalone digital display for that. I am tired of scrolling through all those menus to get to depth, anyway.

They make a combo gauge with a needle tach, but it won't work with the firmware required for a Toyota tach input. The firmware for Toyota processes the tach input as a 4 cyl, the ECM puts out 1 tach pulse for every 2 plug firings. That is the only difference from standard PP for V8 boats.

Will the system work on MPH mode only and not on RPM?

It will work on both MPH and RPM, probably better than other boats because of the precise control of the throttle, we turn a potentiometer, not a butterfly. For RPM mode, it is a simple firmware mod, when the package comes from PP it will be set up correctly for Toyota. From the hardware side, it simply a matter of putting the cable in a good place, I have some ideas that may work better than the current solution. The pictures are from Jarret Llewellens boat, he is a big time skier. It worked for him, I think I can located the cable differently and have better results, after seeing what worked on his boat. My idea would be a more universal solution, it would fit the same on a D drive or a V drive. I will work on it this fall, there should be a package ready to go by spring:), if things work out. I think they will.

Go to Ebay.com and search under perfest pass.  There is a guy selling a throttle cable cheap if you need on for your install.

My PP system came yesterday:) I am on the road so it will have to wait until this weekend before I can get started. I will take plenty of pictures!

I'll take a look at the throttle cable, I think PP would send me one if I needed another, my work may help sell a couple more systems.

Keep in mind that the brain box for PP for Toyota uses 4 cyl. firmware to process the tach input. It is ONLY needed for RPM mode. If you get a swinging deal on a system from a private party, you could either not worry about RPM mode or send it to PP for modification.
