So we spent the weekend stripping the engine down. It is in hundreds of peices in box all over the garage. We have taken loads of pics of all the parts and steps taken. Unfortuataly when we finally got it strip down, and the heads and crank shafts out there was no visible cracks to be seen. We were lucky we stripped it as the water pump was cracked in two and only one side of the engine was getting water. We also found a build up of sand in the exit water pipe. George will hopefully get the pics together today or tomorrow and post them.
So we have gone to get heads and block pressure tested so we have to sit tight for a few days.
So finger crossed.

Robbie

We are trying to get her in the water by the end of october so finger crossed it all goes well. If any of you guys are looking for pics of parts or have any question regarding the engine drop us a responce and we will try to help you out.
Cheers Rob

Robbie-
I have been reading the post and sounds like your the engine rebulid is complete?  Give us (me) an update.  I should be rebuilting my sometime this winter or spring.  I have found a local toyota guy that is excited to get his hands on the my epic.  After all that gets done the boat is up and running I am considering redoing the interior.  Who knows- haha-  I have a big love/hate relationship with my epic but everytime I walk out the garage and see it I fall in love all over... but let us know how the ireland epic turns out.
Boating is more then a passion- is a lifestyle.

We have the engine rebuilt and got it started on Thursday but we have discovered a problem. The engine keeps automatically shutting down. It runs for a second and then shuts off. We have had the ECU plugged in and it turns out the oil pressure is reading 0 by the ECU and this we belive is what is causing the problem. The engine also has a mechanical oil pressure gauge attached to it. This leads us to belive the previus owner had don something to the engine to bypass this problem. Has anyone heard or know of a way to help us sort this out. We are in the process of stripping all the electrics and looking for the fault.

Robbie,
Glad to hear that you are making progress. i can tell you for an absolute certainty that my 2000 Epic will not shut down when the oil pressure reading goes to zero. Many of us have experienced problems with our oil pressure senders, I have been through four of them. Mine recently failed, it goes from zero to full scale while driving. There is only one sender that I know of, it is on the oil filter mount.

Is the engine installed in the boat? One common problem that causes similar symptoms is the dead man switch by the driver. Make sure it is adjusted properly or bypass it for testing.

Robbie,
You may want to try this first. Both my old E22 that snowrider bought and my current SX do the same thing after having the battery disconnected for a long period of time. What happens on the Lexus V8, is that idle is a learned value. You may need a third hand for this one but try this-

on the throttle lever there is a button at the base push this in and it will let you control the engine throttle without engaging the trans. push the button in and have someone crank the engine over while you throttle up the engine (kind of like an old carburated car). It may take a couple of times but it should start up, then just run it for a few minutes at 2000 rpm or so. After that you should be able to back off the throttle and she should idle. oh yeah please don't forget the FAKE-A-LAKE.

There are a few other rare problems we run into at the dealership every now and then but try that first.
