Closed bow e21
« on: January 30, 2007, 18:27:53 pm »
The grip tape pad on the front of my closed bow epic is severely weathered and starting to peel off. What can I do for that or what has other owners done with that? I Was thinking of taking it off and putting gray or white HERCULINER on it. That is DIY roll on bedliner.

Hey Brian,

How have you been?

I would consider hydroturf'n it.

www.hydroturf.com

When wet that stock stuff gets slippery too.  Not as slick as the gloss fiberglass but not dependable.  The hydroturf won't slip at all.

The only thing I don't know is how the white holds up.  I would probably go with the granite or the light gray for your boat.

I have beat on my Superjet for years and the stuff is still great.

How often do you go on your bow?  I am up there all the time for the barefoot boom.

Hey eagle winter sucks!!!!
I'm on the bow all the time I have the high fly pole. I'll check that site out for the hydroturf, have you done that to your toyota?  Is yours weathered? What do you think about that herculiner for the bow. It comes in white and I thought it would blend in good, but its permanent it would suck if I didn't like it.

I like Gator Grip, I put it on my trailer and it has held up well, even spilling gas on it. It looks cool too.

No I don't have it on the Epic, just the SuperJet.  I doesn't seem to weather or break down much and I have had it on there for 4 seasons and since it's a stand-up I am always on it.

I don't know about the herculiner.  I take it you will have to take off the original pads and scuff underneath to make it stick?

If you don't like that you could always put the hydroturf over it.

If you buy a sheet of hydroturf you won't need anywhere near all of it and you could re-sell what is left on a personal watercraft board.  People always are looking to turf something else but won't cough up the dough for a whole sheet to do something little.

I put the hydroturf on my platform it looks great, but I don't think it would look good on the bow it's 3/16 to 1/4 thick almost a tripping hazard. The stuff cyclone listed looks like the material you would be looking for.Pat

Cyclone,

How thick is that gator stuff?  I would imagine it is about the same thickness as the hydroturf.

Pat,

Which kind did you use on your platform? Grooved, diamond etc?

It's about 3/16 thick, or about 5mm. It sticks well, and the pattern is random so you can patch together pieces of scrap if you cut it carefully. I was able to do my whole trailer with one standard order, 50$ or so. You can get lots of colors. It's neoprene but it holds up better than you think. I spill gas on one part all the time and it has not come off or melted or discolored. No black shit tracked in the boat either.

It's soft, if you cut a bevel with a razor it gives it a nice finished look. Check out the website.

Hey Brian (skiboarder)

I will probably have some gray diamond leftover from doing the outer rails of my Superjet (I haven't figured out how to injure myself with my feet in the tray so I am going to see if I can stand outside it as well.)

Since the water is still frozen here I imagine you are not in a rush.

That gator stuff looks pretty cool. I wish I knew someone who had it.  It looks to be the same price (or a little more) that hydroturf but you can buy less of it at a time.

No i am not an instructor.  Well unless you consider teaching kids and relatives with no experience teaching.  Just let me know what you plan on doing.  i would need enough for the bow and would like 2 strips for the trailer.  So cold here feels like we will never ski again.  -16 last night
