Stuff for the new boat
« on: February 02, 2007, 17:44:55 pm »
OK, boat isn't here yet and I'm shopping for parts. Here are two things I'll add, one is a must have off my old boat. I can't deal with keys anymore. It can do some really cool stuff, automatically run the blower, bilge. You can lock it or leave it unlocked for push button start, accy. etc. It is handy when teaching kids to drive, sitting in the observer seat you can just push the stop button and the boat will just settle into the water. Rather than hit an obstruction or other boat.;)

Oh yeah, it is 100$ normally 150$.

Here's another thing. Always wanted a transom remote, but Alpine doesn't yet offer one, to my knowledge. This is also on sale, usually 150, now 110. It is an IR learning remote with a led that you place very close to the receiver at the head unit. Drill a small hole in the stereo housing and put the led in there. Mount the module. Run a cable to the transom, mount the remote. THen, you program it with your original remote. It has 12 functions it can learn. I want to have it switch playlists on my ipod, everybody gets to pick their own songs. I'll explain how that'll work next.

Here's a pic of the remote. It's the standard Sony, proven technology.

I gotta get off the computer, I keep finding crap on sale! New head unit, it will allow me to control the ipod via remote. I have the '04 version of this head, it is great. It will go with the old boat.

Dang, Pete... I like your style!  I have an Alpine deck with the newest generation of ipod integration (the cheaper model than the one you are looking at).  Mine is very clunky, but I think it's because of my gen3 ipod -- not the deck.  I just got a new ipod and hope that the integration works better...may report back this spring once the boat is on the water.

I am sold on Alpine. I had to pull the trigger when I saw that they had a new Ipod interface. I have a fourth gen Ipod, should work OK. The stuff came in today, here are some pics. Wait'll you see what I'm doing for amps, its pretty cool, I think. I bought a bunch of Planet Audio stuff, a mix of old and new. I found three mint Zed Audio built old skool Planet audio amps, a two channel 600 watt and a four channel 600 watt. Two channel is gonna be bridged mono at 4 ohms for the tower. I am using my 4 x 6X9 tower box off my old boat. The four channel will be for the boat speakers. All will be Polk momos, I really like the sound of those speakers, they are marine rated and they hold up well if you don't clip them hard. I may pop the tweats in the tower speakers pretty quickly, I'll have to watch it. I found a matching 300 watt two channel Zed Audio made one for 11$ so I bought it just in case, I could use it to drive a 10W3 JL sub. I have a 12W6 for the other sub sub.

I was planning to put my JL 10w3 dual voice coils in series at 8 ohm, and parallel that with the 12W6 at 2 ohm. That would net 1.5 ohms. I am going to drive it with a 1500 watt@ 1 ohm US made class D Planet audio sub amp. It is a new cheapie but I'm going to give it a spin. I bought it because it was cheap as dirt and matched the 6 channel preamp that I have from the old boat. It is the box with the Epic sticker on it. Thanks Brad:)

Here's the ignition. It is cool, in addition to the locking feature, it can turn on your blower when you shut the engine down, and turn off after 2 min. It will also come on when your engine RPM drops below 1100 for 15 sec, and turn off when you get over 1100 for 15 sec. I like that.

Here's the transom remote with the learning IR transmitter. I can't wait to have this. I'm gonna be busy busy putting all this stuff on my boat. It is being towed across the New Mexico desert right now:) Should be here Monday night.

1 more day, Pete!!  I'm going to try and make a trip your way this summer  -- since I've seen the "before" and I'd like to see the "after".  There's a lot of industry training sessions there this summer that I should be attending... Right?

Nice upgrades Pete!  I love the new ignition, where do you plan on putting it?  Will it go where the key was?

On my current boat, it is installed where the key is. I'm not going to drill holes like they did on my boat, just sticky tape. Same place. I started a post on Wakeworld about it, pics there. I should just scan the manual and post it, so many questions! My dealer puts them on any boat, along with pop up cleats, kind of a dress up package.

Pete, you need your own "Pimp My Boat" show!  Now if you could just figure out how to cram one of those new Tundra V8's with 381hp under the hood. Wouldn't that be sweet! ;D

I know if I was a guy with a bad Epic engine I would be looking for a 4.7 Tundra engine. I wonder if the exhaust manifolds would fit? You would have to RIG a throttle somehow, it would be nothing like stock.
