X22 windshield?
« on: March 02, 2007, 01:14:23 am »
There's nothing REALLY wrong with mine, but there are a few of the metal rails I wouldn't mind replacing.  Specifically, I want to replace the entire middle window frame, and the driver's side top rail.  Toyota only has the full windshield and frame, for like $950+shipping or something like that.  I just need a few pieces, and don't need any glass.

So anyway...
If anybody sees/hears of a junked X22 or E22, would you let me know?

Thank you!

Sorry, I don't have a windshield, but I am looking for the window latches to hold the window closed.  I think mine were changed by the previous owner and the current ones are too small to latch the window shut (dont reach the frame of other window)  Can I still get the original ones or do I need to go with aftermarket? Thanks.

I pulled my frame off and sanded it down from where I had my mirror and had it all re-powder coated for $125.00.  It came our great. looks brand new!

That's what I wanted to hear!  How long did it take to remove disassemble the windshield and how difficult is it?

It was really easy, took about 20 min or so.  I would try to see if you can get a clear coat sprayed on top of the PC, I came to the conclusion that sunscreen eats away at the powder.

Hey Shawn,
I am thinking about removing my windshield to have the frame powder coated.  After you removed yours, did you have to remove the frame from the glass?  Can the glass be exposed to the high temp curing process for the aluminum powder coating cure process?

You must remove the glass and rubber weatherstripping surrounding it. Otherwise the 400 degree oven they cure it in will melt the rubber

Thanks for the reply.  Any tricks to getting the frame off the glass?  I assume it is bonded?

No trick just screws along the inside bottom edge. Try to find a nice carpeted area to take it all apart. You don't want to scratch the glass.
