Looking to get a tower for a 1999
« on: January 02, 2004, 02:33:40 am »
I am looking for a tower for my 1999 21' 7". I keep the boat in a boathouse, thus it would need to fold.

Is a factory tower the way to go, and if so do they fold? Or is there an afrermarket tower that is good?

Anyone have one for sale?

Thanks

Bill (Orlando, FL)

Bill,

See my post on the other message.  But, adding to that, I doubt anybody would have one for sale.  Might want to contact Toyota, if they made it as an option, you should still be able to get it direct. If they didn't make it, you might want to look to aftermarket (if you have an Epic 21, I don't think it was an option).

I'd be surprised if Toyota didn't have their tower people rig up a unit for the 21'.

You won't find one used, but I believe that you could get one through the dealer (I'd suggest phoning Atlanta Marine). If that didn't work, you could go through Toyota directly (Rick Cohn, Jeff Dorge.)

You'll probably find they're a little more expensive, but they are pretty cool.

My second choice would be the Phat towers (about $2K installed).

I would emphatically recommend that you get the factory tower from Toyota. Yes, it is still available. It fits the factory mounts and was an option for the Epic 21. It costs gobs of money (2700) but is the best tower both in function and looks for that boat. And for resale. It folds forward and they make covers that fit over the "ears" that stick up. Also, they make the absolute best trampoline top ever designed for a wakeboard boat, much better than a bimini. another 580$, but worth every penny. See the pics page, my boat has the same tower and trampoline that fits both our boats. It does not move or rattle, the design was immediately copied by Mastercraft (zeroflex)
Order it soon, I'm sure it will be discontinued in the near future.

Pete - would you trailer on the freeway with the trampoline top up?

Bill - when you do get it (cuz Pete's right, it's OEM for a reason), there's info on this site about mounting, and I've installed two myself. No matter who installs it, they or you will have plenty of support.

Hi Bill,

How much did you buy your 1999 Epic 21 for?

I just bought a maroon 99 Epic 22 in Orlando, FL.

What lakes do you go to? We're usually at Moss Park or Lake Conway.

We're looking to add a tower to our boat as well.

By the way, the official Toyota service center in Orlando is on E. Colonial Drive...I think it's called Central Florida Boating.

Derek,
I have towed my boat for three seasons with the trampoline top, including a 1300 mile trip. Just need to tighten the bolts once a season.

Tell me more about your trampoline.  Does it provide enough shade is the question.  Shade is important.   I had a bimini built to fit the tower, it has O.K. shade, but raddles like crazy.  Also, where would you order it from, the former Toyota dealer here has little interest in ordering anything from Toyota.  I would also like to have the observor seat.  I realize that I may have to get new upolstery to match my interior (since I have the 2002 model, and I don't think they made any observor seats for it before stopping production).

Depends on how much shade is 'enough'. I went full boat and have a lot of shade now. It's really cool, but also a pain in some ways.

The trampoline (as done by Toyota) looked to be too small for us. Don't think the week-long river trips would be as chill with a regular towboat bimini or trampoline top.

Then again....for all the local rides, I'm yearning for the cleanliness of the trampoline.

Atlanta Marine (email on How-To page) or direct from the reps.

Ps. welcome, and post pics!!!

This is completely off-topic... but rather than starting a new thread...does anybody have a composite swimstep for an E/X22 they might want to part with?  I'm looking to add a composite swimstep (for times when boat is to be left in the water), but am wondering how much somebody would be willing to sell for???

Oh, and Derek, I ordered an AirLift Outback Special (AirLift 1000 air suspension bags with onboard Load Controller II air compressor/regulator).  I think I'm going to attempt the install myself (yikes!) on my 4runner, so stay tuned for instructions/pics/reviews.

Also, I had a devious reason for posting...I had to get the picture of my boat online so I can use it in my user profile...  :)

Is it summer yet?  I can't stand it any longer...I'm launching in a few weeks.  Even though I live in Seattle (water temp is 45 degrees)...  Drysuits, anybody?

They shut their site down. Order one through a dealer. The tower was an option for the Epic 21 too.

I use a Skyline on my 99.  Its a 2 piece setup that drops over the pilon and has a strap that slips over the bow.  The strap is then tightened using a rachet style system as used on some tie-downs.
When not in use, I keep it in its zippered bag in the bow.  Costs @ $350
