Ballat set up and Perfect pass
« on: April 30, 2007, 08:07:36 am »
She ran like a dream and what a great sound of the engine. Had great weather here on Saturday and spent seven hours on the water. We have two minor things we are looking for advice on. The first one is the inboard ballast. We are not sure if we have the hoses set up correctly. Could someone take a pic of theres under the front floor board so we can see if we have them connected correctly. It looks like are pumps are in series which seem strange. Any pics or diagram would be good.
The other thing was the perfect pass was surging a lot. Around 18.5mph it would not settle down. We changed the setting 180 and 80 but still it seemed to have a mind of its own at times. Does anyone have any further suggestions as to what we can do to make it work better. I have posted a few more pics here as promised. Hope you all enjoy.

Glad to here your day on the water went well! I am sorry I can not help you with ballast or PP. After all your hard work I bet you had a smile from ear to ear when you were driving the Epic.

Outstanding work, gentlemen. I am sweating bullets over running a new ground wire from the battery (or somewhere) to the fuse box (or somewhere)!
By the way, you might want to check the bolts on the dock anchor (picture #3). It would be a shame for it to come loose and let you drift away!
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

I used KDW 185, NN 60

The higher or the kdw the more aggressive the throttle change
The lower the NN (don't go below 60) the more speed checks the computer takes

With no ballast or little ballast I would use KDW 150 NN 70
With 1500+lbs of ballast use the KDW 185 NN 60

Ditto on Blindsides recommendations for PP settings. Glad to hear that the boat is back in service.

There are two SX ballast systems on SX's, both are shown in the Ballast Owners manual on the maintenance page. In my system, (i posted pics in the worlds smallest ballast system post) the water enters the boat through a seacock, goes to the inlet of a 1100 Rule fill pump, which directly feeds the OUTLET of a Rule 110 drain pump. This type of pump is basically a pass through when it is not running. From there, the inlet of the drain pump is connected to a T fitting with a .5 in solenoid valve on each side. Each solenoid is connected to the tank via a 1" fitting. Very simple, very effective system.

My system is very slow, it's the .5 in valves. I will replace them with 1" valves when I get some spare cash.

Dudes,

You guys got these things wired!!  All along I thought it was just "FM" (F@#$ing Magic). (A term we use in flying jets).  I push the button and the bag fills, I push the other button the bag empties.  I'm coming to you guys when I have a problem or want to upgrade my boat.  Keep up on the killer info gents.

I would also check the cables and ensure they are not catching on anything.  If you move the knob on the perfect pass servo, you can mimick the movements of the throttle.  I also remember someone saying their cable had a kink from being twisted during the installation.  If blindside's settings don't work, simply detach the cable from the throttle housing and make sure it's not twisted.  Hopefully the settings solve the problem, but if not, these may help.  Glad to hear you are spending your time asking about operating (instead of fixing) your boat!

Cheers
