Impelller installation questions

I replaced my impeller last night and it came with a o ring and a white cloth like gasket well I couldn't find where the cloth gasket went so I didn't use it. Is that ok whats it for.   The impeller was thrashed only like 4 fins left on it.

All there is is the O ring. The fiber gasket must be for a different style pump.
