Block Drains for Sale on Ebay
« on: May 10, 2007, 21:06:22 pm »
What exactly is this thing for sale on Ebay?  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MISCELLANEOUS-TOYOTA-EPIC-PARTS-TAKE-A-LOOK_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ26449QQihZ010QQitemZ200060895108QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

Does it screw into where I would normally need to loosen bolt in order to drain water from block (for instance during winterization - is that even a word, haha)?

If so, I am going to get it since I seem to have corrosion problems in my cooling system (see a few of my previous posts)... That way I can drain every time after use without lots of hassle ??

Comments appreciated.

You've got one on either side of your block about three quarters of the way back behind the exhaust manifolds.

OK, Guess I dont need to get another one then.  I aquired boat about 2 years ago and had winterization done there.   Do the drains just unscrew with fingers or do I need a tool or do they drain themselves ?

Use a wrench (I think 10mm) to open the valve, then the water poors out the small hose next to the bolt.  On my SX the port side is simple and the starboard is an absolute pain.  Long skinny arms would be ideal :D

D drives are so much easier, my SX SUCKS for access to the starboard side block drain. Gotta figure something else out, extension with a wobble socket or something.

I looked for a long/extended wrench, but couldn't find anything that would work.  I wonder what the dealers used for these things?

Do we always have to drain water every year? What if just flush it with 5 gallons of anti-freeze? or keep the boat in a heated garage?

If it gets below 32 where you live you should always winterize even if it is in a heated garage. If your heat goes out (furnace) you will wish you did it. I did mine last season for the first time and didn't think it was that hard but I have a direct drive.  Not shure if you can use antifreeze but if you do, atleast fog the cylinders and put stabill in the gas.

Nice, I might pick one of these up and replace the slightly stripped one on my engine.  Any links to the other side one?
