Hey Capt
why does Toyota use the 160 F thermostat in our engines instead of the 180 in the Lexus LS400 or any other Toyota product? Have anything to do with an "open cooling system"? or the small performance gain from the 160? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

No doubt, I'd like to know. I don't like running engines that cool, causes sludging problems over time.

when I pulled my thermostat 2001 sx, printed 170, same as used in Lexus gs 400. Wonder if previous owner changed it. Captain Rick, do you have original 160F thermostat I could get from you? Anybody knows hoe to get 160F thermostat?

well for the car they are made to run hotter for pollution control. dont have any of that on boats. hence the colder thermostat.

I ordered one a few weeks ago from TMS Parts.  I recommend you get the O ring too.  Mine was trashed and I had to replace it.
