For those who are interested, here is my personal riding accounts.
I got my skyski from a friend up in Minnesota who got a new one, and sold me his used for only $400. That is the only down side of these things is that they are pricey. New are $1400 -$1800 with shock tower(seat with shock suspension. A carbon new high tech one is going for $4500. Not to sure about current airchair $, but most riders including myself say skyskis are far better.
It takes some practice getting up, but with someone who knows how to give good instruction, you can get going within 6-8 attempts.
After you can get up and can remain riding the foil(called taxiing) you can start getting air.
This is when you can start taking some big (sometimes painful) landings. But I dont thinks it is worse than learning wakeboarding aerials. Your boat speed is about the same.
I do think you can advance quicker then wakeboarding.
A friend in one season went from 1st time to almost landing 8-10ft high barrel rolls.
One big difference is that after you get the basics, there is such little resistance on the foil you can go forever without getting tired. The 80 year old mom of the skyski inventor rode from LA to Catalina.
When there is too much chop for good wakeboarding, skyskis are nice because the foil rides under the surface of the water and you will still have a smooth ride.
Bottom line, they are so much fun and if you know of anyone in your area who has one give it a try.
