Buying soon - Advice Please!
« on: April 14, 2008, 19:24:16 pm »
I'm new to the site.  I love the community that Toyota boats have.  I'm looking at buying a 99 Epic 22 and was hoping I could get some help. I am planning on test driving it this Saturday.  Does anyone have advice as far as what I should look for?  The boat has a new Lexus motor in it with very low hours.  I was also wondering if I should be concerned that it is a new motor, and not the original.  I'm pretty sure that the boat was actually registered on here as boat #73, but there is very little info.  If anyone knows the guy, do you know how I could get a hold of him?

Again, any advice you can give I would greatly appriciate.

Thanks,
Tyson

Tyson,

Start with this thread (it links to a couple others as well).  I'm not sure about your particular boat, but others may be familiar.  What part of the country are you in?  If the boat has a new motor, I would definitely want an explanation.  After you read some of these posts, formulate some specific questions and ask away.  It is very hard for most of us to rewrite advice over and over, but we all love discussing our boats, so don't be shy about asking about something you can't find an answer to.  Good luck.

Ktown,

I am in Southern Indiana.  The boat is about 6 hrs away in Missouri.  I am planning on test driving on Saturday.  Thanks a ton for the reply and the leads to those threads.  This would be my first boat, and I just want to make sure I don't get stuck with a piece of junk because I didn't know what questions to ask!  Thanks again.

Tyson the boat you are referring to was mine.  I bought it two years ago in Florida, with the intention of restoring the boat (I would say it's close to 75% complete when I decided to buy a Mastercraft) You have my cell phone number via e-mail give me a call, and I will tell you the whole story.

Just to help people remember me:

Go for it man, The boats are freakin awsome, and the help on here is amazing.  I've only had mine for about 6 months, (still not on the map) and every time I have a question, it is answered.  It is a little agravating when somthing goes wrong, but with a little patients, we will help in any way we can. As for the new motor, no big deal if it looks and runs good.  Although mine still looks new and runs strong.  Talk to the dealer (if that is where you are buing it) and see if he can give you a month warranty or somthing.  Look at it, 6 hours is a long way.  Don't test drive for only a few minutes, let him know you want to spend some time on the water.  Check for leaks in the bow, if it has ballast, check that, showers, bilge pumps, temps, your the boss.  Good luck.
