dash computer problems
« on: May 16, 2008, 04:52:40 am »
In our 02 sx the computer in the dash has lost the option of selecting the depth, and water/air temp functions in the computer.  ive been under the dash and everything seems to be hooked up ok.  i followed all the wires and it looks like the depth and both temp functions water and air go into the same box mounted on the back panel under the dash so im thinking its got to be something with a ground or something just wondering if anyone has had this issue or knows anything about how to fix the issue

just got the boat out of storage and ready to go tomorrow! hope its nice!  :D

hockey651- your on the right path, look at the depth/air/water module. first thing I would check is for a solid ground. Then make sure you have 12 volts to the module. ( a while back i realized the factory had wired the module to always have power on, which led to burning out the transducer for the depth guage. I recommend you find an accessory voltage source. If i remember correctly the purple wire on the decc is acc power. Easy switch of the 12 volt wire. next check the multiplex wiring between all the guage parts. You may want to look at the "Digital instruments installation guide" in the maintenace section. check out page 12 it will explain how all the connections are very important for all the info to work right. Thats what sucks about CAN (controller area network) multiplex. one bad connection in the chain and all hell breaks loose. Your only looking at 5 or so connections. in doubt- unplug one at a time check for moisture or corrosion and reconnect, make sure the terminal end plug is installed. good luck.

Just took my '01 SX out for the first time this weekend.  I to had problems with my in-dash computer.  Also my horn, fuel gage, speedometer and my bilge pump controls stopped working.  What gives?  Help!

Just found this section in the forum regarding gauge issues http://www.epicmarine.com/forum4/index.php?topic=1370.0.  There are tons of info under this section.  I'm going to start with my battery (have had a low voltage reading) and see if this cures the problem.  Good luck hockey 651.  If you correct your gauge issues, let us know how you fixed it.
